UFC 248 Middleweight Preview

With a sparkling 18-0 record, Israel Adesanya looks to defend his title against former Olympic silver medalist Yoel Romero. Betting odds have Adesanya as the favourite to defend his title.

Adesanya holds more advantages in this fight. Adesanya has over six inches of reach advantage, is 12 years younger, and moves much quicker than Romero. Romero’s style is also problematic in this bout. Adesanya boxing and kickboxing skills, along with his reach, help keep wrestling-style opponents (such as a Romero), away from the body.

Romero needs to make this fight close contact or on the ground if he is going to have a chance at the upset. That is a tall task for Romero, who has struggled to make weight before a fight more times than he has won since 2018.

Our UFC 248 prediction is for Adesanya to win the fight. While the odds on Adesanya are pretty high for a UFC champion taking on an opponent who has lost his two last matches, you can consider parlaying them with the method of victory (our pick, Adesanya by decision) to get more juice.

Pick: Israel Adesanya (-330) to retain the UFC middleweight championship

UFC 248 Women’s Strawweight Preview

The longest-tenured women’s strawweight champion, Jonna Jedrzejczyk, will try and add to her record when she matches up against current strawweight champion Zhang Weili.

The odds on this match are quite close, with the two fighters presenting similar fighting styles, a combination of kickboxing and grappling. With their similarities, this fight could go either direction on Saturday night, meaning the underdog is offering better value.

Jedrzejczyk won her return to the strawweight division in October 2019 (after moving to the flyweight class for a few fights). In her victory by unanimous decision, Jedrzejczyk looked like the fighter that pulled off five straight successful title defences (four of which came by unanimous decision).

Weili is a talented fighter and ranks a spot ahead of Jedrzejczyk in the women’s pound-for-pound rankings. However, the difference between the two is not significant enough, making Jedrzejczyk and her UFC 248 betting odds the better bet on Saturday. Take Jedrzejczyk to win, without betting anything else with it.

Pick: Joanna Jedrzejczyk (+260) to win the UFC women’s strawweight title
