UFC Heavyweight Title Fight Prediction
Daniel Cormier will try to extend his reign as the UFC heavyweight champion when he faces off against Stipe Miocic in the night’s main event. Cormier won the championship against Miocic at UFC 226.
Miocic and Cormier fought for the belt back in July 2018. Cormier won by KO nearing the end of the first round, his only win the first round of a fight since he joined the UFC (his last round 1 win came as a member of Strikeforce in 2014).
While Miocic has some advantages over Cormier, Miocic is a pure heavyweight with greater reach and length. However, Cormier’s has never shied away from bigger opponents, often using his stalky frame to control larger fighters very well.
Cormier also has excellent stamina for someone his size and age. He has won seven of his 22 MMA wins in his career by decision (compared to only four by Stipe in 21 matches).
Also working in Cormier’s favour is Stipe’s extended time away from the octagon. Stipe has not fought since he faced Cormier 13 months ago at UFC 226.
Overall, we expect Stipe to last passed the first round this time but believe it will once again be Cormier emerging from the ring as the heavyweight champion at the end of the night.
Pick: Daniel Cormier (-155) to retain the UFC heavyweight championship
Predictions for the Other Fights of the Night
Other great fights make up the rest of the night at UFC 241, which should help it trump UFC 240 back in July. Here are our picks to win the two other biggest fights of the night and the latest UFC odds.
Anthony Pettis vs. Nate Diaz
With a world of war emerging in the build-up to this fight, this showdown between welterweight fighters may be the most entertaining fight of the night.
The two Americans are both veterans of the Octagon, each with 30 professional MMA fights. However, Nate Diaz is coming off a three-year stint away from the UFC. Time off that long, especially for a fighter who lost his last fight, is never a sign that should make bettors feel confident.
For Pettis to win the fight, he will need to use his takedown capabilities. While Diaz is a great striker, he has at times in his career struggled to defend. He is also not nearly the force on the ground he is when he is standing up.
Pettis may also be able to score more strikes against Diaz then he on average goes for against other fighters.
Overall between Pettis skills as a fighter and the length off for Diaz, Pettis is our pick to win the fight on Saturday.
Pick: Anthony Pettis (-115) to Win
Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Henrique Costa
After rescheduling this match from November 2018 to August, these two middleweights finally get a chance to slug it out. The two, both known for their ripped physiques, will look to lay a beatdown on their opponent, trying to score a win through KO or TKO in the first two rounds.
While Romero is the favourite, our money is on Costa UFC betting odds. Costa has been ever-impressive lately, and a win on Saturday puts him in line for a title fight within the next year.
Costa is younger and faster, with speed being a crucial part of this fight. He will need his speed, to actively avoid the onslaught of strikes thrown by Romero.
Overall, the veteran Romero will push Costa, but Costa, who sees how decisive a victory on this night is, will fight a clean fight and score a big win on Saturday night.
Pick: Paulo Henrique Costa (+160) to win
