UFC 240 Betting Preview

UFC 240 Betting Preview
The UFC returns to Canada with a huge showdown between two legends of the Featherweight class. Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar headline the event, fighting for the Featherweight Championship. Plenty of other big-name fighters fill out an exciting night with some great UFC betting odds. The main event kicks off at 10:00 pm EST in Edmonton, with seven other fights filling out a busy preliminary card.

UFC betting odds are open on every fight on the UFC main and preliminary card.

  • Max Holloway -480
  • Frankie Edgar +325

UFC 240 odds see the last two fights of the night headlined by some heavy favourites. The other fight at UFC 240 see some closer odds, which gives bettors the opportunity to parlay one of the favourites with another fight from an earlier bout.

UFC 240 Facts

  • Holloway last fight came in the Lightweight class, not Featherweight
  • Holloway two successful title defences since unifying Featherweight belts at UFC 212
  • Frankie Edgar 0-4 in last four title fights
  • Cris Cyborg is coming off the first loss since her first professional MMA fight (20-0 with one NC between losses)
  • Felicia Spencer (1-0 in UFC) one of eight Canadians fighting on Saturday night

UFC 240 Main Event Predictions

After rescheduling twice, the main event at UFC 240 is a title fight for the Featherweight Championship between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar. Max Holloway (-480) is heavily favoured on UFC 240 betting lines to retain his belt on Saturday against Frankie Edgar (+325).

The two fighters have never faced each other in the octagon, but there are some similarities between the two to look at before making a wager. Both fighters have previously fought in the Lightweight class. Edgar had more success in the Lightweight class, but since dropping down, he has struggled to retain his success.

Style-wise, Holloway is much more of a striker than Edgar. Holloway is one of the best strikers in the UFC, using his quick hands to land plenty of hits. His skills standing up have helped in win 12 of his last 13 fights (with his only loss coming in the Lightweight class).

Edgar is a fine defender but does not have the striking skills to match Holloway. Not landing enough strikes will hurt him if this fight goes all five rounds, which is a realistic bet to look at considering how the two match up in this bout.

Also going in favour of Holloway is his history in Canada. Max Holloway is 3-0 in Canada in his career, including 2-0 in fights for the Featherweight Championship.

Look for a lengthy fight between two skilled fighters, but take Max Holloway to win the fight, either by decision or by TKO.

Pick: Max Holloway (-480) to defend the Featherweight Championship

Other Fights of the Night

While the main event at most UFC draws the most attention, there are always some great other fights to watch and bet. Check out these picks and these UFC Odds.

Cris Cyborg vs. Felicia Spencer

With the fight taking place in Canada, it is great to see a Canadian as high on the card as Felicia Spencer. The problem for Felicia Spencer (+410) is she enters her second UFC fight with the worst odds on online sportsbooks of winning of any fighters at UFC 240.

Although Cris Cyborg (-660) is coming off a loss, she is still considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the UFC and is heavily favoured to win again on Saturday. She has 17 wins by TKO/KO in her MMA career (most of any female fighter).

Her loss at UFC 232 is almost worth overlooking. Cyborg was knocked out 51 seconds into the fight. She had never been knocked out (or even loss by a TKO) in her career.

While some of the female fighters in the UFC have had prolific falls in their career (Rhonda Rousey for example), do not bet on that happening to Cris Cyborg just yet.

Pick: Cris Cyborg (-660) to Win at UFC 240

Best Canadian to Bet on at UFC 240

With all the Canadians on the card, now is the time to look at what Canadian is worth betting on to win at UFC 240. Our pick is for the best Canadian to bet on at UFC 240 is Oliver Aubin-Mercier.

While Aubin-Mercier (+185) is the underdog against Arman Tsarukyan (-250), he has a good chance to pull off the upset on Saturday.

Aubin-Mercier is a much more experienced UFC fighter. His opponent, Tsarukyan, has only one fight under his belt in the UFC, a loss back in April.

The fighter styles also match up well for Aubin-Mercier. Tsarukyan is a wrestler and replies more on his grappling and ground game. This style of a fighter will help Aubin-Mercier, who is very adept at winning matches on the ground through submission.

Pick: Oliver Aubin-Mercer (+180) to Win at UFC 240
