Tour de France 2019 Betting Picks
With some of the top riders in the world out of this year’s Tour de France, the race is open for a new winner.
Top 2019 Tour de France Winner Odds
- Egan Bernal +225
- Geraint Thomas +25
- Jakob Fuglsang +600
- Adam Yates +1200
- Richie Porte +1600
- Nairo Quintana +1800
- Romain Bardet +2000
- Steven Kruijswijk +2000
- Thibaut Pinot +2000
While many are looking at Thomas Geraint to defend his title, he faces some healthy competition from a member of his team. If the two cannot work together to will one of them to victory, then another rider could win. However, team Ineos is known for its teamwork, and the leaders will not let selfishness cost them a win.
Tour de France Information
- There are 21 stages over 23 days
- 3460 km total distance
- 22 teams are competing with 176 riders
- Three Mountain Stages to end the race
- Only one individual and one team time trial
With some riders withdrawing before the start of the race, the field of the favourites to win the race has shrunk down to under a dozen riders, with most focusing bettors and Tour de France fans focusing on Egan Bernal and Geraint Thomas.
Tour de France General Classification Winner Prediction
Geraint Thomas won the Tour de France last year (after Chris Froome crashed twice and changed his focus to heading his teammate win). However, Froome is not participating in this race, meaning Thomas will need some extra help from his teammates if he is to repeat as champion.
Of course, his biggest competition comes from his teammate and Ineos co-leader Egan Bernal, who has Tour de France odds at +225.
While the 22-year old Bernal is only riding in his second Tour de France, he was instrumental in Thomas’ victory last year, pulling hard for Thomas (and Froome at the start) and still managing to finish 15th overall.
This year’s race route is different, with no cobbles, only 27 kilometres in individual time trials and four climbs of more than 2000m.
The changes give Bernal an advantage. His strength and age mean he can excel at this style of race, while still pulling for Thomas if that becomes the strategy. Add in Bernal winning at the Tour de Switzerland, after Thomas retired after crashing, is another factor in Bernal’s favourite.
While the rest of the field is offering some good value, Bernal is a worthy bet to win, especially if Thomas is not entirely healthy (although he says he is) after crashing in Switzerland last week,
Pick: Egan Bernal (+225) to Win the 2019 Tour de France.
King of the Mountain Odds
While it is not quite the honour of winning the entire Tour de France, winning the Mountain Classification (also called Man of the Mountain) is an impressive accomplishment. The favourite to win the Man of the Mountain in 2019 is French rider Julian Alaphilippe.
Alaphilippe won the Mountain Classification in 2018. He won two of the five mountain stages, including the 218km Stage 16 (which was the longest stage at the 2018 Tour de France). Most online sportsbooks have Alaphilippe with Man of the Mountain odds around +160.
His biggest competition this year is Warren Barguil. Barguil finished second in the Mountain Classification last year, although his 91 points were well off the 170 points Alaphilippe put up to win. Geraint Thomas is another underdog to look at winning the Man of the Mountain.
However, as Stage 18 to 20 are all Mountain, he will likely be more focused on winning the overall race, not conserving much of his energy for those three stages.
Pick: Julian Alaphilippe (+160) to win Man of the Mountain

Young Rider Classification
Although nothing is a lock in sports, betting on Egan Bernal to Win the Young Rider Classification is pretty close. Bernal, who is the favourite to win the Tournament, opens as the favourite to win the award handed out to the rider below the age of 25 with the best overall time.
Bernal odds of -222 to win are attractive and offer enough return to help some bettor’s hedge on their 2019 Tour de France overall winner bets.
Bernal’s biggest competition is Enric Mas. Mas is a talented young rider, but not nearly as proven as Bernal. Mas is +225 to win the Young Rider Classification, yet has odds of +6600 to win the whole Tour de France. Unless Bernal goes down with an injury, he is the only rider worth wagering will win this award.
Pick: Egan Bernal (-222) to Win the Young Rider Classification
