Toronto Maple Leafs vs Nashville NHL Odds, Prediction
The reigning Western Conference champions head north of the border for an Ontario road trip, starting with a stop in Toronto. The Leafs are coming off one of their biggest wins of the year, slapping around the Anaheim Ducks 7-4 on Monday night. The Predators are in the midst of a four-game road trip, winning the first game against the New York Islanders 5-4 on Monday.
These two franchises split their last ten meetings. The Leafs won both meetings last season, including a 6-2 win in Toronto. The Predators have one of their biggest wins in franchise history against the Maple Leafs, winning 9-2 in Toronto in November 2014.
A lot has changed for both these franchises since 2014. The Nashville Predators made their first Stanley Cup appearance every last season, while the Maples Leafs are currently regarded as one of the best young teams in the National Hockey League.
The health of goaltender Frederik Andersen is somewhat of a concern going into Wednesday night’s game. The Leafs starting goaltender left Monday’s game after being struck with a skate in the head with six minutes left in the second period.
Andersen stopped 25 of 28 shots before leaving the game. Backup Curtis McElhinney filled in superb in Andersen’s absence, stopping 16 of 17 shots to improve to 6-4 on the season. Andersen is expected to make a full recovery by Wednesday game.
The Predators are one of the hottest teams in the NHL. The Predators are 8-1-1 over their last ten games, with their only losses coming against the NHL leading Tampa Bay Lightning and their biggest rival, the Chicago Blackhawks.
After a bit of a hiccup in the middle of January, the Leafs have rebounded well, winning five of their last six games. The Leafs currently sit in third in the Atlantic Division.
The Predators are only 4-3-1 against the East on the road this season. However, they are on a three-game winning streak against the East (including two in a row on the road).
Andersen’s, although likely to be healthy, could be a little shaken-up after his injury. He could have some struggles early in the game, allowing the Predators to jump out to an early lead. Once they take the lead, the Predators are a tough team to beat. Take the Predators as the likely underdogs on the road against the Maples Leafs on Wednesday.
After an 11-goal total in the Maples Leafs Monday night win over the Anaheim Ducks, the offence is starting to look more as they did in the early portion of the season (when they frequently hit the over). The Predators have also scored five goals in three straight games.
The total for Wednesday’s game is will likely be 5.5 or 6.0 (with a line of -110). It is the smarter wager to bet on the over on Wednesday night.
