Super Bowl Sunday is on! D-day Predictions and Last Minute Action
With just about every other aspect of the Super Bowl covered, now is the best time to dive into some crazy predictions on the outcome of the game. As the odds on many wagering options exceed +1000 (and even more than +10000), it is entirely possible to place ten large underdog wagers, have one hit and come out with a profit.
Sports Interaction (read our review here) is offering hundreds of wagering options on Super Bowl LII. Here are the best wagers to make, based on our final prediction of Super Bowl LII.
The Game Will Be Very Close
As great as the Patriots dynasty has been since winning their first Super Bowl in 2002, the one thing Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have not done is blow a team out in the Super Bowl. Six of the Patriots seven Super Bowl appearances were decided three or four points.
There is little reason to believe that a sudden change will occur in Super Bowl LII. The Philadelphia Eagles, even with quarterback Carson Wentz, are a quality opponent. Their depth in the backfield and great defence allows them to keep this game close.
Even their quarterback, Nick Foles, has enough juice to sling the ball downfield and keep the Eagles in the game. Alternatives lines are also available. Taking the Philadelphia Eagles at +7.0 gives them a good sized margin in the game. Considering the Patriots won last year’s Super Bowl by six points, the 7.0 point spread is the best wagering option this year.Philadelphia Eagles +7.0 (-167)
Lowest Scoring Super Bowl In The Last Decade
Over the last 20 Super Bowls, the lowest scoring game total was 31 (Super Bowl XLII between the New York Giants and New England Patriots and Super Bowl XL between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks). Over the 51 Super Bowls, the lowest scoring total was 21 in 1973, when the undefeated Miami Dolphins defeated the Washington 14-7.
Both defences are coming into the game playing very well. The Eagles allowed a 17 points total in their two playoff victories, while the Patriots allowed 34 points in their two wins. Defence is expected to be a significant factor in this Super Bowl.
Bet heavy on the under and consider taking a lower alternative total to increase the payout.Under 45.0 (+130)
A Defensive Player Will Win Super Bowl MVP
Despite defensive players only winning the MVP award in nine of the 51 Super Bowls, they have won two of the last four awards. Since the first prediction is for a low-scoring Super Bowl, picking a defensive player to take home the game’s MVP award is a logical progression.
It is possible to wager on every defensive player and still net a profit if one of them win. Fletcher Cox is the favourite at +3600. Outside of Cox, no player on Sports Interaction has better odds than +9900 (Eagles defensive back Malcolm Jenkins).
Malcolm Jenkins has seen a fair bit of money go his way. Earlier in the week, Jenkins was +11700 to win Super Bowl MVP, but the line has now moved down to +9900. Both Cox and Jenkins are great picks from the Eagles to win MVP. Betting on both players is also a strategy.Fletcher Cox To Win Super Bowl MVP (+3600)
The Patriots defenders are not getting quite as much love on the odds. The top Patriots defender is Malcolm Butler at +14100. Butler could have been the Super Bowl MVP in Super Bowl XLIX when he intercepted a goal-line pass from Russell Wilson to win the game for the Patriots.
While Butler is not a bad pick, the best Patriot to bet on is Stephen Gilmore. Gilmore made one of the biggest plays of the game in the Patriots Conference Championship win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gilmore could make another big play in the Super Bowl if the Patriots get up early and the Eagles are forced to throw at him most frequently than planned.
