Best NFL Futures to Bet on the 2019 NFL Season
NFL odds are available on the Super Bowl as well as plenty of other betting options. Below are the Super Bowl odds on the favourites to win Super Bowl LIV.
Super Bowl LIV Odds:
- New England Patriots +700
- Kansas City Chiefs +700
- Los Angeles Rams +800
- New Orleans Saints +800
- Chicago Bears +1400
- Cleveland Browns +1400
- Los Angeles Chargers +1400
- Philadelphia Eagles +1400
Super Bowl LIV Predictions
The New England Patriots, along with the Kansas City Chiefs, have the best odds to win the Super Bowl.
The Patriots are coming off their sixth Super Bowl win, after beating the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are right behind them with the New Orleans Saints.
Of the four favourites, the Rams are the best beat to win the Super Bowl. The Rams best players are all about to enter or in the middle of their prime.
This includes Aaron Donald, who may be the best football player in the world. Donald, along with Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and a trio of wide receivers (including Cooper Kupp who returns from injury) give the Rams a formidable team with high upset and a low floor.
While teams do sometimes struggle to make it back to the Super Bowl after losing, the Patriots just bucked that trend in 2018. Go with the Rams to get back to the big game and have a much better performance than they did in 2018 (when they scored only three points).
Pick: Los Angeles Ram (+800) to Win the Super Bowl
Best Underdog to Bet
A quick one here, but the Seattle Seahawks at +2800 are a good value to bet will win the Super Bowl. The team rebuilt their defence last season and has one of the most consistent and reliable quarterbacks in Russell Wilson.
The team’s run-first approach can help them come the playoffs, especially when the weather is less than ideal.
Overall, of all the teams outside the top half dozen, the Seahawks and their pedigree with Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson are worth a bet.
Pick: Seattle Seahawks (+2800) to win Super Bowl LIV
Other NFL Futures and Props to Bet
The Super Bowl is not the only NFL futures to bet on for the 2019 NFL season. Below are some other NFL futures and NFL prop bets to make.
Best Division Winner Odds
Looking at NFL futures division odds, one team sticks out more than anyone else, the New England Patriots. The Patriots have won the AFC East 15 of the last 16 seasons (with the one year they did not win being the year they lost Tom Brady to injury).
The talent outside of the Patriots in the AFC East is pretty low. The three other teams (Bills, Dolphins and Jets) all are rolling into the season with sophomore signal callers, who combined to go 12-25 last season.
While the three quarterbacks, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold, all have potential to have good NFL careers, none are at the point one can confidently expect one to lead their team passed the Patriots.
Pick: New England Patriots (-500) to Win AFC East
Best NFL Win Total Bets
NFL win totals are a popular futures market to bet on before the start of the 2019 NFL season.
San Francisco 49ers 8.5 Wins
You have to go all the way back to 2013 to find a 49ers team that won over 8.5 games. For them to top that number, they must overcome the 11th toughest schedule in the NFL.
The key for the 49ers is obviously the health of Jimmy Garoppolo. While the 49ers were only 1-2 when Jimmy G started last season, they managed a 5-0 record with him in 2017.
The problem with betting on the team to win over 8.5 games is not the quarterback, but the talent around him. The 49ers lack much talent outside of tight end Greg Kittle and expecting a tight end to carry a team to nine or ten wins is foolish.
Look for another sub .500 in the Bay Area as they work to get Jimmy Garoppolo back to NFL speed.
Pick: San Francisco 49ers Under 8.5 Wins (-141)
Washington Redskins 5.5 Wins
The Washington Redskins, arguably the team with the worst injury luck last season, won seven games last season. They managed six wins with Alex Smith at quarterback, who is comparable to offseason addition Case Keenum.
The Redskins strength is in their defence, which ranked in the top ten last year in some of the most important defensive categories.
The Redskins should have a healthier defence this season, which should help them win some games even if Keenum or rookie Dwayne Haskins struggle.
Pick: Washington Redskins Over 5.5 Wins (-141)
NFL MVP Favourites
- Patrick Mahomes +400
- Andrew Luck +800
- Drew Brees +800
- Aaron Rodgers +1100
- Baker Mayfield +1200
NFL MVP Pick
While Mahomes is the reigning MVP and the favourite to win again in 2019, he is not the best bet to make to win. The NFL had not seen a repeat in MVP winner since the 2009 season when Peyton Manning won his fourth MVP award.
Mahomes is without Kareem Hunt this season, and Tyreek Hill could face some suspensions if any other news about him surfaces before or during the season.
Instead, bettors could spread around their bets on MVP, in what looks an open race to start the season. One of the players to consider spreading some of the bets on is quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Watson is entering his third year, coming off his first Pro Bowl season after leading the Texans to 11 wins and the AFC South Division title. Watson is a dangerous mix of running and passing and brings to mind a young Steve Young.
The Texans have surrounded Watson with some great weapons, including DeAndre Hopkins, who may be the best wide receiver in the NFL.
If he can continue to find Hopkins and get a full season out of Will Fuller, Watson could pass for over 35 touchdowns, which would give him a strong case to win NFL MVP.
Pick: Deshaun Watson (+2500) to Win 2019 NFL MVP
Best Underdog to Win NFL MVP
When looking at the best value on NFL MVP betting odds, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky comes to mind. The quarterback is entering his third season, which often is around the time quarterbacks make the jump.
Last season saw Jared Goff make the leap in his third season, tossing the ball for 32 touchdowns and nearly 4700 yards. Andrew Luck is another recent quarterback to come close to winning MVP in their third season (Luck led the NFL with 40 passing touchdowns in his third year).
The Bears are also one of the best teams in the NFL but need more from their quarterback to make a run at the Super Bowl.
If Mitchell can make some positive steps (and add some extra scoring with his rushing abilities) then could pull off the upset and win NFL MVP this season.
Pick: Mitch Trubisky (+4000 NFL Vegas Odds) to win the 2019 NFL MVP Award
