Men’s Australian Open Predictions

The 2019 Australian Open winner, Novak Djokovic, opens as the heavy favourite to win again in 2020. Djokovic is the winningest player ever at the Australian Open, with seven titles (between 2008 and 2019) and an 89% winning percentage at all his Australian Open matches.

Nadal, the runner-up in 2019, is considered Novak’s most significant competition on the 2020 Aussie Open. Nadal’s had his least success at Australian Open of the four Grand Slams, winning just once and finishing runner-up on four times.

Nadal, along with Federer, always are strong competitors at Grand Slams. However, as they continue to age, there are other players starting to become Djokovic’s biggest challengers. At this tournament, that player is Stefan Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas made the semi-finals at the Aussie Open in 2019 and won his first ATP tournament last season.

Tsitsipas is worth sprinkling a little on the side to win, but the main focus should be Novak. At 32, Novak is right in his prime and dominates the Aussie Open like no other (as the record setting titles should indicate).

Pick: Novak Djokovic (+162) to Win the 2020 Australian Open

Women’s Australian Open Predictions

A deep field, headlined by Serena Williams, makes the women’s portion of the tournament more interesting to watch, but tougher to predict.

Williams is arguably still the best women’s tennis player, but injury and age concerns do make betting her when she is the favourite, not the best bet.

The rest of the field is stacked with top-tier talent, including Canadian phenom Bianca Andreescu, who is coming off her first Grand Slam win at the US Open (where she beat Serena Williams for the second time in a month).

However, Andreescu has nursed an injury leading up to the event, which could hinder her abilities. There is still time for her to fully recover, though, meaning bettors should wait until closer to the first day of the tournament before betting on the Canadian phenom. Also, for those wondering where to watch Bianca Andreescu, the tournament will be show and stream on TSN and RDS in French regions.

With Williams’ age and Bianca’s health question marks, that opens the field for betting. The top options available include last year’s winner Simona Halep and Australian star Ashleigh Barty. Both have chances but offer less value than another player on the list Simona Halep.

Halep made the 2018 Australian Open Finals, and the fourth round last year (after a very difficult draw to start the tournament). She is healthy entering this year and with two Grand Slams now (after winning Wimbledon in 2019), she should have her focus on adding winning Down Under. Overall, at +900, Halep is an excellent bet with great value.

Pick: Simona Halep (+900) to Win 2020 Women’s Australian Open
