2019 Formula 1 Season Betting Odds & Predictions

2019 Formula 1 Season Betting Odds & Predictions
As the Formula 1 season approaches, the eyes of the racing world turn their attention to Lewis Hamilton and his chances at history. The five-time champion opens the Formula 1 season as the betting favourite to win again in 2019. While Hamilton is arguably the best racer of this generation, after over a decade of dominance, it could be time for the 34-year-old to cede the throne to some of the young guns coming for him.

Formula 1 Facts for 2019

  • Lewis Hamilton won 2018 Championship, his fourth title in five years
  • Only three drivers (Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel) have won since 2010
  • Last eight winner has been Pirelli & C S.P.A. tyres
  • Six of the last ten World Drivers Champions determined before the final race
  • Canadian Lance Stroll +75000 to win Drivers Championship

Formula 1 2019 Drivers World Championship Odds

Anyone who follows Formula 1 knows two individuals have dominated the sports over the last nine seasons. Online sportsbooks are not expecting that to change in 2019, as Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel (winners of eight of the previous nine Drivers World Championships) sit atop Formula 1 championship odds as the 2019 season opens.

  • Lewis Hamilton +120
  • Sebastian Vettel +160
  • Charles Leclerc +450
  • Max Verstappen +800
  • Valtteri Bottas +2500
  • Pierre Gasly +5000
  • Daniel Ricciardo +6600
  • Kimi Raikkonen +15000
  • Lance Stroll +75000

Formula 1 Drivers Championship Odds

As history in the sports comes closer after every year and championship, Lewis Hamilton is the best bet to win another championship in 2019. Hamilton’s five World Championships are tied for second-most in Formula 1 history and only two less than Michael Schumacher. At 34, Hamilton is closing in on the twilight of his career. However, Schumacher won his last two championships at 34 and 35. That leaves Hamilton with a good chance at winning at least one more championship.

Hamilton’s worst finish last season was at Formula 1 Montreal, where he came in fifth. He also retired at the Austrian Grand Prix. Outside of that, Hamilton was nearly unbeatable in 2018. He finished with 11 wins and 17 podiums (out of 21 total races).

So why expect too much too change in 2019. Hamilton is still in his prime, and none of the young drivers showed enough to make one confident they can win (including Canadian Lance Stroll who had only six points last season).

Pick: Lewis Hamilton (+120) to win 2019 Formula 1 World Championship

Formula 1 2019 Constructors Championship Odds

  • Mercedes -139
  • Ferrari +180
  • Red Bull +400
  • (all other Constructor odds between +35000 and +100000)

Another popular futures bet available on the upcoming is what constructor will win the overall Formula 1 season. Unlike the driver’s odds, the constructors’ champion is determined by points contributed by all drivers using the same type of car. For example, two people drove a Mercedes last season (including Hamilton) contributing 655 points or 84 more than second Ferrari.

The Constructors Championship has been awarded for 61 years. In those 61 years, 51 times the winner of the Formula 1 Championship was also the driver of the same company as the Constructor Champion (for example, Lewis Hamilton won last year driving for Mercedes, who won the Constructors Championship). Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are back with Mercedes this season. Bottas set a Formula 1 record last year with seven second-place finishes and no wins. If he can continue to podium at roughly 35% of Formula 1 races this season, Mercedes is the best bet to win the Constructors Championship in 2019.

Pick: Mercedes (-120) to win the Constructors Championship in 2019.

Australia Grand Prix Odds

The Formula 1 schedule starts in Australia, where Sebastian Vettel opens as the favourite at +180. Vettel is coming off two consecutive wins at the Australia Grand Prix (giving him three wins there overall). Lewis Hamilton follows Vettel at +199, but the British star has only won twice (2008 and 2015) in Land Down Under.

Instead, start the Formula 1 season looking for some value. Last year, Kimi Raikkonen finished third at the Australian Grand Prix. The Finnish racer has two wins at the track in his career (as many as Hamilton). However, his odds of winning the Australian Grand Prix are opening at +19500. Raikkonen finished third overall last season due to 12 podiums. Take the value, or at least place a small to hedge against the favourites in the first race of the 2019 Formula 1 season.

Pick: Kimi Raikkonen (+19500) to Win the 2019 Australian Grand Prix
