US Open Betting Preview and Predictions

Get ready for the final Grand Slam of 2021 with our 2021 US Open betting preview.

The 2021 US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York starts this week (with qualifiers taking play the week and weekend prior). The final Grand Slam of the year has plenty of storylines going in – with Novak Djokovic and a few missing stars the headliners. It is time to get ready for the tournament with our US Open betting preview and predictions.

Going into the tournament, Novak Djokovic is the clear favourite. Part of the reason he is so heavily favourite is the absence of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Nadal and Federer have 51 career wins against the World no.1 – which make up over 25% of his career losses. Without them in the tournament leaves us with one question.

Can Anybody Stop the Joker?

The top story of the 2021 tennis season is about one man – Novak Djokovic. Although he fell short in his quest for the Golden Slam (the four Grand Slams and an Olympic Gold in a calendar year), his quest for the calendar Grand Slam is alive and well.

The Joker is a heavy favourite going into the 2021 US Open. He has brushed past the competition at the three Grand Slams this year with a record of 63-13 in sets at the last three Grand Slams.

If you have watched tennis this year, you know Djokovic is the best player on the planet. Sure, he had a blow-up at the Olympics, but he has never been at his best at the event. Since that blow-up, his focus is entirely on winning the 2021 US Open. And we expect him to come out healthy, geared up, and ready to make history.

Best Underdog to Bet will Win the 2021 US Open

Except for Djokovic is an underdog at the 2021 US Open, we need to set some criteria for picking an underdog. The tennis futures on them to win should be 50.00 or more, and the player needs to have moderate success at the US Open.

One guy who fits that description is Pablo Carreno Busta at 80.00 to win the 2021 US Open. Carreno matched his best performance at the US Open last season, making the Semi-Finals (also accomplishing the feat in 2017). It is overall his best Grand Slam event.

Another reason to back Busta is he recently beat Novak Djokovic. Busta bested the Joker in the Bronze Medal match at the 2021 Summer Games. That event – like the US Open – is played on an outdoor hard surface. He was also leading Djokovic at the 2020 US Open 6-5 before the Joker retired from the event. He is worth sprinkling some juice on to win.

Like the men’s side, some women are skipping the 2021 US Open – most notably the Williams Sisters and Sofia Kenin. However, the women’s side is typically deeper and more balanced, with plenty of players – including the last two winners of the tournament are playing (Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu).

Favourite Ashleigh Barty Looks Nearly Unbeatable

Who better to bet will win the 2021 WTA US Open tournament than the world no. one Ashleigh Barty. Barty enters the tournament off of an electric performance at the 2021 Cincinnati Masters. Barty torched the competition, not dropping a single set in five rounds.

You could argue her winning performance at Wimbledon this year was even more impressive. Barty breezed through the WTA talent, winning all but two sets (over seven rounds) to capture her second career Grand Slam title.

Barty’s chances are also helped by a field that has thinned out a bit entering the tournament. While upsets are always a possibility, the more lower-ranked players in an event, the better the chances one of the best in the world wins.

Add in Ash Barty's sparkling 30-6 record on hard courts (and 12-0 record over her last two events excluding the Summer Olympics). What do you get? The best bet to win the 2021 WTA US Open tournament.

Canadian Bianca Andreescu will Challenge Barty

Despite ranking seventh in the world, Andreescu’s recent spat with injuries has her as a more significant underdog than many ranked behind her at the US Open. However, Andreescu looks pretty healthy going into the tournament and – as the 2019 winner – knows how to ball at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Much of Andreescu’s struggles this season are on clay and grass courts. She reached the final at the 2021 Miami Open – a hard surface event. She also got in three rounds of hard court play at the Canada and Cincinnati Open. That should help her get back into form in time for the tournament. When at her best, she is one of the top players in the world and a good value at 30-1.
