2021 Masters Betting Preview

2021 Masters Betting Preview

Get ready for the Masters with our betting preview, which includes the best favourites, underdogs, and Canadian golfers to wager at Augusta.

After the Masters’ change in date in 2020 – the Tournament returns to its usual spot on the golf calendar – occupying the second weekend of April. The Tournament always draws in the best golfers and some old legends of the game – making it arguably the most popular and bet on golf event of the year. Last year Dustin Johnson broke records on route to winning the Tournament. Johnson is back as the favourite in 2021 in a crowded field of talented golfers. Find out who to bet on in our 2021 Masters betting preview.

Best Bets to Win the 2021 Masters Tournament

Dustin Johnson9.00
Bryson DeChambeau11.00
Justin Thomas11.00
Brooks Koepka13.00
Jordan Spieth13.00
Rory McIlroy13.00
Jon Rahm15.00

*Odds available on more players

First off, do not bet on Jon Rahm. As great a golfer he is, he recently stated he would not miss the birth of his child, and his wife is due on the weekend of the Masters. But of the remaining guys (anyone with odds of 20.00 or less to win) who, if any, are worth betting.

If you do back to 2011, four of the previous ten winners fit into the category of favourite.

  • Dustin Johnson 9.00 in 2020
  • Tiger Woods 14.00 in 2019
  • Jordan Spieth 10.00 in 2015
  • Bubba Watson 20.00 in 2014

Although Tiger’s odds are more indicative of him being a betting favourite in 2019 than a genuine contender, he is worth including.

In the last ten years, four times one of the favourites won the Tournament. If you exclude Rahm and Dustin Johnson – as Woods is the only golfer to repeat as the winner in the last 30 years, we have five favourites to choose from the golf futures.

Spieth is as popular as ever in 2021 but is unreliable. Bryson DeChambeau’s game has yet to translate to anything better than a tie for 21st at the Masters. Brooks Koepka may miss the Tournament after undergoing knee surgery in March. Down to two.  Of those two guys – Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas– we are betting on Rory McIlroy.

The Masters is the only Major Rory has yet to win in his career – although it is not because of a lack of effort. Rory’s played well at Augusta – finishing in the top-10 at the Masters’ Tournament every year from 2014 to 2018 and 2020. Rory shot -11 at the 2020 – which would have been good enough to win the tournament five times since 2012.

Rory’s career has been on a bit of a slide lately – as he has not won a tournament since 2019. However, he is still super-competitive at most tournaments and knows that this could be his best chance at winning the Masters.

Since a poor showing at the 2021 Players Championship, he has also been off the tour – with his time and focuses over the last month squarely on the Masters. Will his efforts and focus payoff? We think they will.

Pick: Rory McIlroy (13.00) to Win the 2021 Masters

Underdogs with a Chance at the 2021 Masters

Tommy Fleetwood51.00

Since 2011, two guys have entered the Masters with odds of 51.00 or more and won – Danny Willett at 51.00 in 2016 and Charl Schwartzel at 101.00 in 2011. Of all the underdogs entering the Tournament with odds of 51.00 or more – the best guy to back is Tommy Fleetwood at 51.00.

Fleetwood is the type of scrappy underdog everyone loves to cheer for. He is also a great golfer who often gets overlooked. Fleetwood landed in the top-10 of 33% of tournaments in 2019 and 22% of tournaments this season.

He has yet to win a Major – but finished top-20 twice at the Masters and top-five three times at the U.S. Open. Fleetwood entered the final day of the Masters last year at -8 – and if not for a 74 on Sunday, he likely gets more respect going in this year.

Pick: Tommy Fleetwood (51.00) to win the Masters

Canadians at the Masters

Corey Conners101.00

The 2021 Masters includes a few Canadian golfers -  with Corey Conners as our choice for the top Canadian to bet will win the Tournament. Conners is coming off his best performance at the Masters, which included a 65 on Friday (two off the course record) – leading him to a -9 score and a top-ten finish.

Conners has continued to play great golf after his surprising performance at the Masters – with four more top-ten finishes, including a seventh at the 2021 Players Championship. His recent play has vaulted him up the World Cup Rankings – from 74 to 41.

Conners is offering some great value to win the Tournament – especially after watching him last year. We definitely think he will be in the mix this year – and worth betting on an each-way wager to finish in the top-five.

Pick: Corey Conners (101.00) to Win the 2021 Masters
