UFC 271 Betting Picks

With UFC 271 quickly approaching it’s time to get in on betting this event so that we don’t run the risk of lines shifting out of our favour.

Here, we will look at three fights from the main card that are the best bets on the moneyline to make.

All odds are courtesy of Sports Interaction.

Derek Brunson vs. Jared Cannonier: Cannonier (1.57)

When it comes to this fight, we’re getting a battle of different styles that are going to make it a ton of fun to watch.

For Brunson, this is a guy who has decent volume striking-wise at 3.45 strikes landed per minute, but he really aims for the takedown, average 3.15 per fight.

However, Cannonier is someone who has great takedown defence and has shown that in his more recent fights and doesn’t attempt to take down anyone and goes for the knockout.

Brunson is known to be susceptible to the knockout and Brunson switches his styles up quite a bit which could be an interesting task for Brunson, the southpaw, to take on.

In this fight, Brunson will go for the takedowns. If he is unsuccessful, standing toe-to-toe with Cannonier will not end well for him.

Cannonier’s only loss over his last five fights was against Whittaker and in this one, he will whether the takedown storm, stay on his feet, and get the best of the 6’1” Brunson.

Tai Tuivasa vs. Derrick Lewis: Lewis (1.49)

Everything in my being is telling me to take the underdog Tuivasa here, but I cannot shake the sheer power that Lewis displays fight in, fight out.

Lewis is a fighter who doesn’t swing that often and picks his spots wisely. He swings with immense power so the more he swings, the quicker he’ll get tired, hence choosing his spots.

His opponent, Tuivasa, however, has shown that he can take a punch, though he did lose a fight to Greg Hardy in the past.

Tuivasa is someone who also has power—maybe not as much as Lewis but still has power. Additionally, Tuivasa is someone who also mixes in leg kicks with his southpaw style.

Overall, Tuivasa has a lot of advantages, however, the power of Lewis should land him the win here.

With that said, we’ll know after Lewis lands a few shots how Tuivasa can weather the storm. If he is able to absorb Lewis’ strikes, Lewis will be in trouble.

Israel Adesanya vs. Robert Whittaker: Whittaker (2.75)

Finally, we’re going to go with an underdog here in Whittaker.

As mentioned, this is a rematch of their 2019 fight and in that one, Adesanya won in the second round in dominant fashion.

However, since then, Whittaker has been much more active in the octagon, winning three fights between July 2020 and April 2021 over guys like Darren Till, Cannonier, and Kelvin Gastelum.

Whittaker showed in his last bout against Gastelum that he has developed a bit of a takedown game, landing four of them on Gastelum compared to two in his last eight fights combined.

It was short last time, but when Whittaker was a bit more patient, he did well against Adesanya.

With his new takedown proficiency, we could see Whittaker sit back, display that patience, and strike to take Adesanya down.

Going with the underdog here—Whittaker gets his revenge.
