UFC 255 Betting Picks & Predictions: Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Alex Perez
The UFC returns to Vegas on November 21, with UFC 255. The event includes title fights for the Men and Women’s Flyweight Championships.
Below is our betting picks with betting odds for UFC 255. Our UFC 255 betting picks include who will win each title fight and some predictions on other fights on the main card.
Main Event: Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Alex Perez for the Flyweight Championship
|To Win Men’s Flyweight Championship||To Win Men’s Flyweight Championship|
The last fight of the night is between Deiveson Figueiredo and Alex Perez for the Men’s Flyweight Championship. Deiveson has been one of the busiest fighters in the UFC, with his fight versus Perez, his third title fight of the year. Perez replaced Cody Garbrandt on October 2. This is Alex Perez’s first title fight in the UFC.
While Perez comes into this fight with two straight performances of the night, we like Figueiredo to defend his belt. Figueiredo is a smart fighter who avoids his opponent’s strikes and defends against takedowns well.
Perez is a striker but may have a tough time landing enough to pull off the upset. He also wins the majority of his fights by decision. Adding in two extra rounds additionally hurts his chances of winning – as he is more likely to slip up and Figueiredo land a significant hit that could lead to a KO/TKO. We like Figueiredo to defend his belt against Perez and face a more significant test once Garbrandt is healthy.
Pick: Deiveson Figueiredo (-310) to Defend the UFC Men’s Flyweight Championship
Co-Main Event: Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jennifer Maia for the Women’s Flyweight Championship
|To Win the Women’s Flyweight Championship||To Win the Women’s Flyweight Championship
The co-main event sees the women square off for the Women’s Flyweight Champion. Valentina Shevchenko is a big-time favourite over Jennifer Maia, and we do not see any reason to bet against her at UFC 255.
Shevchenko is a monster in the Octagon. She is coming off three successful title defences, with the most recent at UFC 247 – a win by TKO over Katlyn Chookagian. Her opponent at UFC 255 – Jennifer Maia – lost to Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 244. Maia only has three wins in five fights since joining the UFC.
Shevchenko holds many advantages over Maia. Shevchenko lands significant strikes at a higher rate and takes fewer significant strikes than Maia. She also has a three-inch reach advantage and defends takedown betters than Maia.
We like Valentina Shevchenko to win the fight. We also suggest you parlay her with another fighter, or bet her to win and bet her to win by submission or decision to get better value. Valentina has won 39% of her fights by submission and 33% by decision – with the remaining 28% by KO/TKO.
Pick: Valentina Shevchenko (-1195) to Defend the Women’s Flyweight Championship
Brandon Moreno vs. Brandon Royval
|To Win the Fight||To Win the Fight|
Two more flyweights face off at UFC 255 when Brandon Moreno meets Brandon Royval in the Octagon. This fight could go either way, which is why we like the betting value on Brandon Royval to pull off the upset against Moreno.
Royval and Moreno have similar fighting styles. Both fighters win the majority of their fights by submission and average close to the same number of takedowns per 15 min – 1.75 for Moreno and 1.81 Royval. Royval is more accurate when attempting takedowns, which is crucial for him winning this fight.
We like Royval’s chances of landing some takedowns on Moreno, taking the fight to the ground and giving him an opportunity to submit his opponent. Even if Moreno defends well, we like Royval’s chances of still winning by decision if the fight goes three rounds.
Pick: Brandon Royval (+160) to Win the Fight
Mauricio Rua vs. Paul Craig
|To Win the Fight||To Win the Fight|
Two Light Heavyweights wrap up our UFC 255 betting picks. The veteran Rua comes in as an underdog in his 40th career fight, while Craig is coming off a Performance of the Night win back in July. These two fought last November, ending in a rare UFC draw. We are not expecting this rematch to end in a draw.
Paul Craig has been a bit of a wildcard in his UFC career, consistently alternating Performance of the Night with losses at his next fight. However, he has an excellent chance to win against Rua and not have another letdown.
For one, Rua is on the downside of his career. Since winning the UFC Light Heavyweight, Rua only holds a record of 8-7-1 (compared to 19-4 when he won it). Rua has not shown much to suggest he is getting any better with age. Even in their last fight, it was pretty lucky Rua split the judges and ended up with a draw. Craig looked like the better fighter and will be the better fight at UFC 255. We are betting on Paul to win the rematch.
Pick: Paul Craig (-190) to Win the Fight
