The Oscars 2021 Betting Guide

The Oscars 2021 Betting Guide

Entertainment’s biggest night – the Academy Awards – is almost here, and to help you make the night both fun and profitable, we have betting predictions for the winners of the major categories.

Despite a strange year for movies and a delay in the ceremony – Hollywood’s biggest night is quickly nearing. Get ready for this year’s Academy Awards – which airs on April 25 – with our Oscars 2021 betting guide.

Best Picture Winner

Nomadland1.26
Minari7.37
The Trial of the Chciago 79.00
Promosing Young Woman11.00
Judas and the Black Messiah17.00
Mank20.00
Sound of Metal43.00
The Fatheer43.00

Eight films are vying for their place in immortality – but which one will get it by winning the Oscar for Best Picture? While all eight films are great and have merit, only four have a realistic chance of winning the Academy Award for Best Picture.

  • Minari
  • Nomadland
  • Promising Young Woman
  • The Trial of the Chicago 7

While each of those films has taken home its share of accolades, it is Nomadland – after winning the Producers Guild Awards – that is the clear frontrunner and the best Oscars prop bet to win Best Picture. Directed by Chloe Zhao and starring Frances McDormand – Nomadland tells the story of a woman who takes on a nomadic lifestyle after her husband’s death and the death of her town’s only industry following the 2008 Banking Crisis and recession.

The film’s numerous accolades started with wins at the Venice and Toronto Film Festival, and we are betting it will conclude with the ultimate prize – the 93rd Academy Awards trophy for Best Picture.

Pick: Nomadland (1.25) to Win Best Picture

Best Director Winner

Chloe Zhao1.11
David Fincher9.00
Lee Isaac Chung12.00
Thomas Vinterberg13.00
Emerald Fennell19.00

Even though Chloe Zhao is a big favourite to win the Best Director, we think it is a better bet to pick David Fincher to take home the golden statue. The Academy has a history awarding films that pay homage to old Hollywood – and Fincher’s Mank oozes with old Hollywood charm. We can see an upset happening in this category.

Pick: David Fincher (9.00) to Win Best Director

Best Actor Winner

Chadwick Boesman1.05
Anthony Hopkins9.00
Riz Ahmed9.00
Steven Yeun23.00
Gary Oldman23.00

The easiest bet to make at this year’s Academy Awards is Chadwick Boseman winning Best Actor posthumously. Boseman garnered universal acclaim in his final acting role as Levee Green – the overly confident trumpeter in Ma Rainey’s blues band. This bet is very reminiscent of taking Heath Ledger to win Best Supporting Actor as the Joker in 2009. We suggest you parlay this bet with another of our picks to get some extra juice.

Pick: Chadwick Boseman (1.05) to Win Best Actor

Best Actress Winner

Best ActressSports Interaction
Carey Mulligan1.71
Frances McDormand3.45
Andra Day5.21
Viola Davis7.06
Vanessa Kirby16.00

There is some tough competition in the Best Actress category – with Oscar darlings Frances McDormand, and Viola Davis both nominated. However, we believe it will Carey Mulligan’s name called when they open the envelope. Mulligan gave the performance of her career in Promising Young Woman as a woman who seeks revenge for the suicide of her friend after sexual assault. It is an engaging and powerful role (which she nails) with enough relevance to win the award.

Pick: Carey Mulligan (1.74) to Win Best Actress

Best Original Screenplay Winner

Promosing Young Woman1.45
The Trial of the Chicago 72.56
Minari11.00
Judah and the Black Messiah17.00
Sound of Metal22.00

As one of the more challenging categories to call – Best Original Screenplay feels like one of few opportunities on Oscar night for an upset. Of the four underdogs lagging behind Promising Yong Woman, our choice to win is Minari. Minari has won a few Best Screenplay awards, including the Toronto Film Critics Associations Awards and National Board of Review – and holds a higher rating on Rotten Tomatoes (over Promising Young Woman). We can see it bolstering its resume for the Academy Award on Sunday night.

Pick: Minari (11.00) to Win Best Original Screenplay

Best Adapted Screenplay Winner

Nomadland1.21
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm5.99
The Father6.09
One Night in Miami12.00
The White Tiger24.00

Nomadland leads the category as the favourite – and when you dissect it against the other films nominated, it is hard to make a case for any of them beating Nomadland. Nomadland, which we expect will win Best Picture, takes its source material and masters it on the screen. There is no need to consider any controversy surrounding writer Chloe Zhao (who also produced and directed the film) and the Chinese government, bet on her and the film to add Best Adapted Screenplay to their resume.

Pick: Nomadland (1.21) to Win Best Adapted Screenplay

Best Supporting Actress

Best Supporting ActressSports Interaction
Youn Yuh-jung2.31
Maria Bakalova2.34
Glenn Close4.97
Olivia Colman9.00
Amanda Seyfried11.00

Arguably the most intriguing race at the 93rd Academy Awards is between Maria Bakalova and Youn Yuh-jun for Best Supporting Actress. Bakalova gave the comedy performance of the year, playing Borat’s daughter in the sequel, while Yuh-Jung plays the role of an immigrant who does not conform to her grandson’s expectation of an American grandparent.

As wonderful as Yuh-Jung was in Minari (her first American film), the Academy breaks standard protocol most in the supporting categories, leading us to believe enough voters will lean towards Bakalova.

Pick: Maria Bakalova (2.34) to Win Best Supporting Actress

Best Supporting Actor

Best Supporting ActorSports Interaction
Daniel Kaluuya1.2
Sacha Baron Cohen4.04
Leslie Odom Jr.13.00
Lakeith Stanfield19.00
Paul Raci21.00

A great selection for sure – the choice for this award is between two actors from the same movie – Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield – for their roles in Judas and Black Messiah. Both great in their respective roles, Kaluuya is the one that truly elevated himself as Fred Hampton, the chairman of the Black Panther chapter in Chicago. He is the favourite for many reasons and our choice to collect the Best Supporting Actor trophy on Oscar night.

Pick: Daniel Kaluuya (1.20) to Win Best Supporting Actor
