After 17 weeks of the regular season and three wild rounds in the playoffs, we finally have our Super Bowl LV matchup – the Kansas City Chiefs opening as the favourites against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. You can find our Super Bowl LV betting predictions on who will win the game and on the game total after finding some Super Bowl betting stats.

Super Bowl Betting Stats

  • Favourites are 36-17 straight up in the Super Bowl (Super Bowl 49 was a pick’em)
  • Favourites are 29-20-2 against the spread
  • AFC and NFC teams have each won 27 Super Bowls
  • The Over has hit 27 times, the under 26 times (there was no line on the first Super Bowl)
  • The Chiefs are 2-1 all-time in the Super Bowl
  • The Bucs are 1-0 all-time in the Super Bowl

Last Five Super Bowls

  • Super Bowl LIV Kansas City Chiefs (-1.5) 31 vs. San Francisco 49ers 20, Under 53 Points
  • Super Bowl LIII New England Patriots (-2.5) 13 vs. Los Angeles Rams 3, Under 56 Points
  • Super Bowl LII Philadelphia Eagles (+4.0) 41, New England Patriots 33, Over 49 Points
  • Super Bowl LI New England Patriots (-3.0) 34, Atlanta Falcons 28, Over 57 Points
  • Super Bowl L Denver Broncos (+5.0) 24, Carolina Panthers 10 – Under 43.5 Points

Super Bowl Game Winner Prediction

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs against Tom Brady and the Bucs – could the NFL have drawn up a better Super Bowl. The legend, Tom Brady, is going for his seventh ring, while Mahomes is trying to lead the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowls – which would make him the first quarterback since Tom Brady in 2003 and 2004 to repeat as Super Bowl champion.

Kansas City Chiefs

1.59 2.40 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The two teams played during the 2020 NFL regular season, with the Chiefs winning 27-24. While the score was close, the Chiefs controlled most of the game – holding a 27-10 lead entering the fourth quarter. Patrick Mahomes absolutely torched the Bucs defence, tossing 462 yards and three TDs. Tyreek Hill had one of the greatest games ever by a wide receiver – catching 13 passes for 269 yards and three TDs.

The Bucs have played much better since their loss to the Chiefs – winning seven straight games.

We are going with the Chiefs to win the game against the Bucs – especially after watching both teams play last weekend.

The Chiefs laid a licking on the Buffalo Bills last weekend. Mahomes was in MVP form, tossing 325 yards and three TDs. His ability to get the ball to Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill makes the Chiefs offence nearly unstoppable.

The Bucs played a little sloppy in the second half last week – with Brady tossing three interceptions and the Packers nearly erasing an 18-point deficit.

To beat the Chiefs, you need to play mistake-free football, which the Bucs have not done, despite winning three playoff games on the road. The Bucs are the first team to play the Super Bowl at home – but the overall benefit of home-field advantage in 2020/21 is not the same.

Overall, the Chiefs are the better team, and with favourites winning two-thirds of all Super Bowls, we are betting on them on February 7.

Pick: Kansas City Chiefs (1.59) to Win Super Bowl LV

Super Bowl Over/Under Betting Prediction

Game Total sports-interaction sports-interaction Game Total

Over 56.5 Points

1.87 1.95 Under 56.5 Points

The over/under line on Super Bowl LV opened at 57.5 points after the games on Sunday – the highest total in Super Bowl history. The line has since been bet down to 56.5 (or 56 points depending on the book), but we expect more line movement as we approach the game.

The prior record for highest over/under on the Super Bowl is 57 points (twice). Tom Brady was involved in one of those games – a win against the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 - that game finished with 62 points. The other game with a 57-point game total was Super Bowl XLIV between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints - that game ended with only 48 points.

Last year the Chiefs put up 31 points against the 49ers – who were arguably the best defence in the NFL last season. Brady’s previous Super Bowl appearance came against the Los Angeles Rams – which was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in NFL history with only 16 points – and a game we consider a statistical outlier.

We are betting on the game to go over the total – as both these teams are loaded with offensive talent. The Chiefs are coming off a 38-point performance, while the Bucs have scored at least 30 points in six straight games.

Pick: Over 56.5 Points (1.87)

We recommend you parlay the over with the Kansas City Chiefs to win the game. You can get the juice when you parlay the two bets together.
