The Men’s Basketball Semi-Finals start with the United States taking on Australia. After some rocky performances in Olympic prelims and a loss to France to start the Summer Games, the United States looks like the best country in the world.

Although Australia laid a smackdown on Argentina in the second half of their 97-59 win, the United States is a significant favourite on basketball betting odds to win the game. Australia has some decent NBA players – with Patty Mills leading the team in scoring, Joe ingles shooting well from three (39.3%) and Matisse Thybulle playing stout defence, they are still overmatched by the Americans.

The United States’ fifth scorer is Devin Booker. Booker just set the NBA record for most points in his first playoffs (a run that included four games with 40+ points). The Aussie – while savvy and aggressive – do not have the stars (or even a star like Slovenia) to help them keep pace with the United States.

Slovenia vs. France Betting Preview

Luka Doncic, 17-0, and going for the Gold Medal. Following the Slovenian team is one of the most interesting stories in the final days of the Summer Games. NBA superstar Luka Doncic is leading the Slovenia team and setting records along the way.

France is the toughest test yet for Luka, Zoran Dragic, and the rest of the Slovenia squad. France is a deep and talented team with plenty of NBA talent.  Ruby Gobert, Nicolas Batum, and recent Knicks signing Evan Fournier anchor a stout France team, looking to knock off the Slovenians.

France gets the edge in overall talent, but Slovenia has the best player in the matchup. So, who is going to win and get a chance at the Gold Medal? With how dominant Doncic looks going into the game, we are going with Slovenia to make the Gold Medal game.

Doncic is leading all scorers in the tournament, averaging 26.3 points per game on 52.2% shooting. When not scoring, Doncic is finding teammates – averaging 8.0 assists per game (second-most in the Games). Doncic’s efficiency sits at 129.0 – 33.0 points higher than second-place Ricky Rubio. Slovenia also has Mike Tobey – who ranks fourth in efficiency.

Canada looks to clinch a spot in the 4x100m relay finals when they race in the first heat of the 4x100m men’s relay race Wednesday night. The lineup for each country in the event is announced just before the event.

Assuming Canada pairs the runners who took part in the 200m – Andre de Grasse and Aaron Brown (who both won their semi-finals heats) and Brendon Rodney (who was teammates with de Grasse and Brown when they won Bronze in 2016), they have a great chance at taking home Gold.

Canada took second to Great Britain at Gateshead in July. However, Canada's time of 38.29 ties for the second-fastest time this year, and only 0.02 behind Great Britain. Japan, Jamaica and the United States figure to be big challenges for Canada.

However, Jamaica no longer has Usain Bolt to close out races, and the Canadians outran the United States sprinters in the 200m. Japan’s cohesion makes them a threat to Canada – but de Grasse closing is better than anyone Japan can put in the same role.

One of the remaining events where Canada is favoured to take home Gold is in the Women’s C-2 500m sprint. The team features Laurence Vincent Lapointe and Katie Vincent – two of the fastest canoe sprinters ever. The duo holds the world record in the C-2 500m, completing the sprint in one minute and 51.428 seconds.

Vincente Lapointe is one of the most decorated women in the sport’s history. She has 11 World Championships - including three in C-2 events with Katie Vincent. As a first-time event for women at the Olympics – we are sure the two are hungry to add Gold Medals to their impressive resumes.
