Best NHL Bets On January 17, 2022

Another week, another fresh slate of NHL betting opportunities. Monday features nine different games across the league, but we have our eyes on four to wager on. Read this to find out the best NHL bets for January 17!

Over/Under 6.5 Goals Scored: Minnesota Wild at Colorado Avalanche

Let's begin with the Wild and Avalanche, a game in which the best Canada sportsbooks are giving the highest over/under goal total of the entire night. Then again, that's all the norm in games featuring Colorado, which boasts one of the most lethal attacks in the entire league. With 150 goals this season, the Avalanche have netted the second-most in the league (behind the Panthers only).

Perhaps what makes Colorado so tough to defend is the number of options it has on offence. Whereas most teams have two to three players that carry the offensive burden, the Avalanche has five or so. In fact, the team has five different players that are among the top-25 scorers league-wide. One of those players is Gabriel Landeskog, who is back from a three-game absence due to COVID. His presence means Colorado will, more or less, be at full strength in this Monday clash.

With the way we're talking about Colorado's offence, you can probably guess what way we're going — yep, we're betting the over. Avalanche has put up at least four goals in 14 of its last 16 matchups, a crazy stat when you think about it. The Wild will do their part too and get this game into the seven-goal territory at a minimum.

Moneyline: Montreal Canadiens at Arizona Coyotes

Alright, we couldn't help ourselves and HAD to bet on this Montreal-Arizona moneyline, or in other words, the toilet bowl. These are the two worst teams in the league with a combined 15 wins. Something's got to give, right?

And for us, that means a Coyotes win. They've been playing "less horrendous" as of late. In its last eight games, they've won three. But more than that, they've shown an ability to get inside the net plenty and often. During those eight games, Arizona notched a respectable 27 goals (3.4 goals per game). We expect that offence to continue and lead them to a win on their home ice.

Over/Under 5.5 Goals Scored: Nashville Predators at St. Louis Predators

Here's a juicy matchup pitting Central Division rivals, separated by a mere two points in the standings (Blues are second, the Predators are third). The stakes of this game make the Monday NHL betting line all the more bet-worthy. But rather than the spread, we sense there's more betting value in the over/under 5.5 goal total.

Why? Well for a few reasons. For starters, the first time these two met earlier this season, it was quite the shootout. In that mid-November meeting, Nashville gutted out a 4-3 victory on the road. It's one of only four home-ice losses for St. Louis this season.

Two, the Blues have a bit of a controversy at goaltender. Usual starter Jordan Binnington has struggled as of late and could be pulled in favour of Ville Husso, whose been more reliable. With no clear answer who'll be in the net, we sense some disjointed play from the Blues, which could open up the scoring on Monday. We're taking the over here, as well!

Moneyline: Pittsburgh Penguins at Las Vegas Golden Knights

Bookies have this moneyline at pick 'em, which makes sense since the two teams have combined for a whopping 45 wins this season. We're less indecisive, however, because we're taking the Pittsburgh moneyline.

Here's exactly why: the Golden Knights are cold. Ice cold, in fact. Since the turn of the new year, Las Vegas has dropped four of five — all at home. And because of COVID postponements, they haven't hit the ice since last Tuesday. The downturn and all-around chaos around Las Vegas hint that the Penguins can steal this game on the road.

How To Bet On NHL?

Betting on NHL, and winning those wagers, is how you start off the new week with a bang. Whether you're taking our advice above or fading it, it makes no difference if you aren't locking in the bets themselves. To do just that, visit one of the bookmakers underneath and while you're at it, look into their sportsbook bonuses for free play. Money earned from these bonuses could be used to make NHL bets "on the house" so don't miss out!
