2021 MLB Futures and Predictions

Find our thoughts on the 2021 Major League Baseball season and our favourite MLB futures for 2021 here!

After a shortened 2020 MLB season, adjustments to rules and the playoffs, the MLB returns to “close to normal” in 2021. While the Dodgers open the years as the favourites to repeat as champs, you will see in our 2021 MLB futures and predictions the league is loaded with good teams – making it a great year to watch and bet on baseball.

More teams available to wager will win the 2021 World Series

We love the potential of the Toronto Blue Jays (a little more on them later), but they are not our top bet to win the World Series in 2021.

The Los Angeles Dodgers open the year with the best World Series betting odds – but repeating as World Series winners in baseball has not happened since the New York Yankees dynasty from 1998 to 2000.

The San Diego Padres are getting a lot of love – but we need to see this roster put together more before betting on them to win the World Series.

So, who do we like to win the 2021 World Series – our top choice is the Atlanta Braves.

The Atlanta Braves are consistently improving over the last three seasons – making the NLCS last year. The team has the reigning NL MVP – Freddie Freeman – who helped the Braves finish the year with the second-highest offence in baseball.

Freeman is joined in the middle of the line-up by Marcell Ozuna (who led the NL in home runs and RBIs last year), Travis d’Arnaud (who has a career-high .919 OPS OPS and won a Silver Sluggers last year) and Ronald Acuna Jr. (who is one of the best young players and won back-to-back Silver Sluggers) – making them overall one of the best line-ups in baseball.

The Braves also have deep rotation – helmed by budding star Max Fried. Fried was unbeatable last season (literally unbeatable, going 7-0 with 2.25 ERA) and earns his spot as the ace of the rotation. The Braves also added veterans Charlies Morton and Drew Smyly in the offseason to go with Ian Anderson – who had an ERA of 1.95 in 32.1 innings with the Braves last season.

The biggest thing for the Braves is the looming return of Mike Soroka. The Canadian was an All-Star as a rookie in 2019 – going 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA. However, an Achilles injury ended his 2020 season after only three games. News is positive on Soraka – with some reports suggesting he could join the Braves rotation by the end of April.

With the roster they have and GM Alex Anthopoulos’s willingness to make trades, the Braves are the best bet to win the 2021 World Series.

Pick: Atlanta Braves (12.00) to Win the World Series

Best Underdog Bet to Win the World Series

We like the Milwaukee Brewers as an underdog to win the World Series in 2021. The Brewers made some smart offseason moves – getting Jackie Bradley Jr. and Kolten Wong to help improve a defence that ranked below-average in many advanced statistics.

They also had an underwhelming season from Christian Yelich. He should bounce back in 2021 to a similar player that won the MVP in 2018 and took the Dodgers to Game Seven in the 2018 NLCS.

The Brewers will likely need to make a move for additional starting pitching – but Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes give the team a dependable one-two punch to start the year. As long as they can keep them afloat early in a weak NL Central and make a few moves in the summer, we like their odds of winning the 2021 World Series.

Pick: Milwaukee Brewers (51.00) to Win the World Series

Can the Toronto Blue Jays make the Playoffs?

To Make the PlayoffsSports InteractionSports Interaction
Toronto Blue JaysYes (1.72)No (2.00)

Even though we believe the Blue Jays are a few pieces away from being the top contender for the World Series – we have them as one of the five American League teams to make the playoffs.

The Blue Jays had themselves a busy offseason – making a huge splash in free agent by signing George Springer (to a record deal) and inking Marcus Semien (who finished third in MVP voting in 2019) to a one year deal.

Their additions help the Jays field one of the best line-ups in baseball – possibly the best if Vladimir Guerrero Jr. follows up his outlandish Spring Training with career-bests and Teoscar Hernandez produces at a Silver Slugger level again in 2021.

Pitching is the Blue Jays biggest hole – especially with top-prospect Nate Pearson on the IL to start the season. But they have a legitimate ace in Hyun Jin Ryu, and either Tanner Roark or Steven Matz could have a bounce-back year in 2021. While it does not equate to enough pitching to win the World Series, it does give them enough with their hitting to compete in a – somewhat lacklustre American League.

Pick: Yes (1.72) Toronto Blue Jays to Make the Playoffs

Best Bet for AL MVP

DJ LeMahieu29.00

My favourite MLB player prop going into the 2021 season is DJ LeMahieu to win AL MVP. LeMahieu is coming off a season where he led AL batters with a .364 batting average, .421 OBP. 1.011 OPS, and 178 OPS+. He also had 102 RBIs in 2019.

He is consistently one of the best hitters in the Majors, batting at least .300 in five of his last six seasons. LeMahieu is arguably the most important player on the New York Yankees – who are the best bet to win atop the American League in 2021.

Pick: DJ LeMahieu (29.00) to Win AL MVP
