La Liga 2022 Futures: Who Will Finish Top 4?

All of three months remain in La Liga's 2021-22 season. For futures bettors, there's no better bet to make right now than which La Liga clubs will finish top-4 in the table — and earn a spot in the Champions League in the process. In this article, we're giving you expert advice on how to approach this bet. Read on for free picks!

The league title is a two-team race between Real Madrid and Sevilla, with the former having 49 points currently, while the latter is at 44 points. For comparison's sake, the third-place team, Real Betis, is at 34 points so the gap is massive. Therefore, there's very little betting value in championships futures and why we're skipping the wager entirely in favour of top-four finishers.

Speaking of which, let's take a gander at how the best Canada sportsbooks are even handicapping the futures for La Liga's top-four. Here are the current betting odds:

If the season were to end today, Real Betis (34 points) and Atletico Madrid (33 points) would be in, while Real Sociedad (33 points), Barcelona (32 points), and Rayo Vallecano (31 points) would just miss the cut. Will those standings hold or shuffle? Welp, you're about to find out.

Betting Picks For La Liga 2022 Futures

We can safely assume Real Madrid and Sevilla will finish top-two given its existing points lead. Once again here, there's not much money to be made betting on them, but there is on who'll finish third and fourth, which is what our betting picks for La Liga 2022 futures will be concerned with. Here's who we're backing to win:

Much has been made about the "demise" of Barcelona this year. The departure of Leo Messi. The financial mess. Being eliminated in the Champions League group stage. And we could go on and on.

Yet, despite this turmoil — both on and off the field — Barca is on the upswing. Until a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to rival Real Madrid a few days ago, the club went an entire month without losing a game. Moreover, they used the January transfer window to shell out more than $60 million to sign Ferran Torres away from Man City despite the never-ending debt issues. The signing led to team president Joan Laporta saying "Barcelona are back."

We're not 100-percent ready to agree with Laporta, but we also don't think "Barcelona are done for" as many of its fans and bettors seem to think. Nope, in this top-four futures bet, we're taking the powerhouse at these steep odds. We just like the confidence it's playing with as of late.

Let's look at this recent El Clasico game, in which Barca fell in extra time. On two different occasions, Barcelona clawed back from one-goal deficits to tie its more-talented rivals. It's a level of resiliency that was lacking earlier in the season before Xavi Hernandez took over managing duties. Even in defeat, the performance felt like a much-needed "moral victory" for Barcelona on its comeback tour.

So yes, bet Barcelona despite the negative sentiment around the team. Hernandez has improved the club big-time in the two months since he took over so we can only imagine the continued progress ahead in the next three months before league play wraps up.

Atletico Madrid

After winning the La Liga title last season and returning just about every piece of that championship team, few expected Atletico to struggle this mightily this season. The team is 9-6-5 and was just eliminated in the Supercopa semi-final after a 2-1 defeat to Athletic Club. The lack of consistency has infuriated its bettors — and for good reason too.

Call us crazy, but we're betting that Atletico somehow, someway figures it out in the next few months. We mean, the abundance of talent is there. Outside of Real Madrid, no club in the league is more loaded from top-to-bottom than Atletico. Joao Felix, Antoine Griezmann, Thomas Lemar, Luis Suarez, and many more are world-class talents.

There's a lot of opinions about why Atletico has wildly underperformed this season despite keeping the roster intact (and even adding to it). Complacency from last year's success is one. Slow first-half starts is another. And questionable decision-making from manager Diego Simeone is another popular one.

We don't have a hard answer, but our money says a fix for Atletico will come between now and May. Maybe not a total fix (this team isn't catching Real Madrid), but a band-aid solution that keeps them in the top-4 at the very least. The talent is too rich for this inconsistency to continue.
