With Fury v Joshua odds open for betting (although you will only find odds on the winner this far away from the event), you can already get in on the action. This fight is sure to draw plenty of action in the lead-up as it is the first heavyweight title bout to unify the heavyweight belts since Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis back in 1999.
Tyson Fury, whose reach and experience has him opening as the favourite on Joshua v Fury odds – but judging by what he has been saying around the time of the fight announcement, betting on Anthony Joshua is the smart money right now.
Fury has come out saying he has spent the last few months consuming up to 12 pints per day and recently stopped training for the fight against Joshua. He has also recently stated that he could train with binmen (garbagemen) for only a few weeks to fight bums. While his comment was not directed at Anthony Joshua, it did come out just a few days before they signed the deal – suggesting he does not respect Joshua the way he respected Deontay Wilder.
Those types of remarks – even if they are not meant for Joshua or are meant to play mind games – are a dangerous way to start the buildup to the fight as it will undoubtedly give Joshua – who oozes talent in the ring – extra motivation.
Joshua has excellent stamina and endurance – something that he could use heavily to his advantage if Fury is not in the shape he was for the Wilder fight.
Joshua’s only loss also came as a heavy favourite over Ruiz Jr. – and many believe he simply overlooked his opponent in the loss. In the rematch, Joshua returned to form and dominated Ruiz Jr. in the fight. Joshua will not overlook Fury. He should also look to the Wilder-Fury fights to see how Fury figured him out in the rematch and train accordingly.
It will be interesting to follow the lead-up to this fight. As more we get more information, see more training videos and hear more trash talk – we are sure to see the pendulum swing (and the odds move). Still, with three months (or more) before the two fighters enter the ring, we are going with Anthony Joshua to become the unified, undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
