Best Bet to Win the 2021 Champions League – Manchester City

Although Bayern Munich is the favourite on soccer betting odds to repeat as the winner of the tournament, our pick to win the 2021 Champions League is Manchester City. Manchester City dominated Group C in the knockout stage – going 5-1-0, allowing only a single goal, and posting a goal differential of +12.

Manchester City faces Borussia Monchengladbach in the Round of 16. The Round of 16 is the furthest Borussia Monchengladbach has ever made it in the tournament. Manchester City is 3-1-0 all-time against Monchengladbach – outscoring them 11-4. We expect Manchester City to efficiently dispatch Monchengladbach to move on to the Champions League quarterfinals.

From the quarterfinals onward, the competition heats up, but this Man. City club can get as hot as anyone in the tournament. Kevin De Bruyne and Ferran Torres were studs in the qualifiers, and they should continue to play some of the best offence of any two players in the knockout stage.

They are also playing some of the best defence in the world over the last few months. In their previous three English Premier League games – before the draw of 16 was announced – Manchester City did not concede a goal.

Overall, how complete this Manchester City club is and the fact they likely have an easier draw than prohibitive favourite Bayern Munich (Munich plays Atalanta in the Round of 16, who are a more formidable opponent) has us believing that Manchester City can win their first Champions League title. It would also be their first appearance in the Finals.

Pick: Manchester City (5.50) to Win the 2021 Champions League

The Underdog We Like to Win the 2021 Champions League – RB Leipzig

Despite playing in Group H – aka the “Group of Death” this year – RB Leipzig battled their way into the Group of 16. RB Leipzig – a club barely ten years old – is coming off a semifinals appearance at last year’s tournament. They lost to Paris Saint-Germaine 3-0 in that match. To beat Tottenham and Atletico Madrid on route to their semis.

RB Leipzig was in a group with Manchester City and PSG this year, winning one match against each team. In the Bundesliga, dating back to the start of 2020, both games against Bayern Munich have ended in a draw.

The quality of the teams RB Leipzig has beat in the last six months alone has us also excited about their potential in the Round of 16. They face a daunting opponent in Liverpool. However, Liverpool has looked human the last few months – especially on defence earlier in the EPL season.

It will be a tough path for RB Leipzig, but how well they have played – even after losing Timo Werner – have us believe they are the best underdog to bet will win the 2021 Champions League.

Pick: RB Leipzig (41.00) to Win the 2021 Champions League

Knockout Stage Bet: Barcelona over Paris Saint-Germaine

Barcelona

2.10 3.80 (Draw)
3.10 Paris Saint-Germaine

Despite all the talent and money they spend, PSG has underwhelmed at international competitions, and we expect them to not make it too far in the knockout stage. PSG keeps dealing with injuries and plays Barcelona in the Round of 16.

Barcelona knocked out PSG the previous two times they have played in the knockout stage. They have dominated PSG at home in those knock out games – including a 6-1 win in 2017. We expect Barcelona to win the first leg and eventually move on in the tournament over PSG.

Pick: Barcelona (+110) to Win
