After a dominating performance in the group stage – including a record-tying one goal conceded – Manchester City pushed its way through to the club’s first Champions League Finals, where they will face Chelsea.
Chelsea also had a successful campaign – allowing four goals total over the Group Stage and Knockout rounds (matching Manchester City). Everything is pointing towards a low-scoring affair, reminiscent of the 2012 Finals – a 1-1 victory by Chelsea in penalty kicks over Bayern Munich.
For the 2020-21 EPL season – the clubs split their two meetings, with Man City winning the first game 3-1 and Chelsea besting Man City on May 8 by a score of 2-1.
Manchester City opens as the favourite over Chelsea on soccer betting odds – and we like them to win. However, we expect this game to be close – and deciding on Man City winning during the 90 minutes or eventually winning in extra time/penalty kicks is the main thing to decide.
The Finals has been decided in extra time/penalty kicks three times in the last decade – including a 4-1 win by Real Madrid over Atletico Madrid (in what was arguably the most chaotic Finals in recent memory). The 1-1 Finals in 2012 (when Chelsea won) and 2016 are more of what we are expecting to see on Saturday.
The odds on the game ending in a draw are certainly attractive as well. And what we are betting on will happen on May 29.
Pick: 2021 Champions League Finals is a Draw (3.24)
Goals Over/Under
Goal Total | ![]() | ![]() | Goal Ttoal |
---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 | 2.11 | 1.65 | Under 2.5 |
Eight goals. Four apiece. That is all Chelsea and Manchester City allowed in 24 games (12 each). Neither club allowed more than a goal in a game. Maybe one club implodes on defence in the finals – but both clubs imploding is unlikely.
The line is set at 2.5 (standard for most European soccer games). As these two teams have been so stout on defence throughout the tournament, 2.5 goals almost feel too high. We are backing the under on this match – as we can see it ending in a 1-1 draw and going to penalty kicks (which does not affect the over). Back the under before the game kicks off in Turkey on May 29.
Pick: Under 2.5 Goals (1.65) in the Finals

My favourite prop bets on the Champions League Finals are total goals for each club. The losing side of the Finals has scored 0 or 1 goal every time since 2006. If you think Chelsea is going to lose, betting on them to score none or once is a good bet – as you can profit if either outcome hits. The same goes with Manchester City – especially if you are betting on them to be shut out.
Pick: Chelsea (Road Team) to Score 0 Goals (2.14) or 1 Goal (2.29)
Total Home Goals | ![]() |
---|---|
3.70 | |
1 | 2.55 |
2 | 3.30 |
3+ | 4.30 |
The winning side of the Champions League Finals offers a broader range of scores. We have seen a few clubs score three or more goals – but expecting that type of scoring in this matchup is foolish. We like Manchester City scoring at most twice – once during the first 90 minutes and a possible clincher in extra time. The odds are good enough to bet on both wagers and profit if either hit.
Pick: Manchester City (Home Team) to Score 1 Goal (2.55) or 2 Goals (3.30)
