Canada will play the first two matches on the road, before a pivotal third match against Panama in Toronto. In our Canadian October World Cup Qualifiers betting predictions, we preview each match and the best bets to make on team Canada and their next three matches.

Mexico vs. Canada – October 7

The fourth match of Canada’s 2022 World Cup Qualifiers is the toughest they will have throughout the tournament. Mexico sits atop the CONCACAF table with seven points through three matches and currently holds the longest streak of World Cup appearances in the CONCACAF at seven.

Historically, Canada has struggled against Mexico. Canada has not beaten Mexico since a win at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2000. Since then, Canada is 0-3-7 against Mexico and 0-1-6 in Mexico.

As much as we want Canada to win every match and qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986, they will lose at least a game or two. This game is one they are likely to lose. Mexico is ranked 48 spots ahead of Canada on the FIFA Rankings. While the rankings did not matter much when Canada got a draw against the US in September, the US was without two key players.

Mexico should have their full roster for this showdown. While this Canadian roster nearly upended Mexico in July (without Alphonso Davies, Cyle Larin, and Jonathan David) Mexico was also without some key players. That game was also held in Houston – where you will find plenty of Mexican fans but not the same home-field advantage they have in Mexico. Canada will play competitively but ultimately fall to Mexico.

Jamaica vs. Canada – October 10

Sports Interaction will open soccer betting on the game after the Jamaica game.

Canada stays on the road for their second match of the week when they face Jamaica. Jamaica sits at the bottom of the CONCACAF table with only one point and a -4-goal differential through three matches.

Canada surged past Jamaica on the FIFA World Rankings to 51 in the world. Jamaica – which only three months ago was ranked 25 spots ahead of Canada, now ranks 59th in the world. The ranks are indicative of the play of the countries and their 2022 World Cup prospects.

Canada won the last meeting between the two countries – a 2-0 win in 2017. Canada’s roster has improved a lot since that win. The young stars give Canada a much more potent offence. Even without Alphonso Davies in their match against El Salvador, Canada scored three goals.

The Jamaican defence has some glaring holes entering this match. The Jamaicans could not stop Panama’s counter-attack in a 0-3 loss. They could not counter back either, as Panama built up a 2-0 lead and controlled the ball willingly. What Panama did against Jamaica, Canada can match. I would not be surprised if the result in Kingston is similar with Canada picking up a pivotal three points before heading home to end the October window.

Canada vs. Panama – October 13

The third and final match of the October window is a critical showdown between Panama and Canada. The two countries are tied with five points after three matches – meaning nothing short of a result would spell disaster for the other side.

Surprisingly, Canada and Panama have not played since 2014. The last three games between the two – all played in Panama – ended in a draw. Canada is undefeated at home against Panama. Dating back to 1996 (the first time they played), Canada is 3-1-0 against Panama, winning the most recent home game (2012) 1-0.

World Cup October Canada 1

We expect at least a point from Canada against Panama. Canada is ranked ahead of Panama – although both countries are climbing the FIFA Rankings. Home-field is also key for this match. In the last 22 months, Panama has beaten up on weaker countries on the road. However, when they play against better countries (the USA, Mexico, Japan, Serbia), they have either lost or been lucky to escape with a tie.

Panama enters this match after a long flight and a tough match against the United States. Canada will also have a larger crowd for this game as BMO Field (in Toronto) increases its capacity to 21,000. I expect Panama will still play well – but Canada should get at least a point and more likely win the game.
