The NHL's regular season is scheduled to conclude on April 29 — meaning there are two and a half months for teams to position themselves for a run at the Stanley Cup title. As we near the finish line, let's take a quick gander at the current championship betting odds. Per the most popular Canada sportsbooks, these six teams have the best chances at claiming the Cup at season's end:

NHL 2022 Stanley Cup Betting Picks

We probably don't need to remind you that the Stanley Cup playoffs are routinely the wildest and most unpredictable postseasons in all of the North American sports. Because of that, we would strongly urge you NOT to "hitch your horse to one wagon", or in other words, bet solely on one team in the futures bet category. It's just flat-out risky business, hence why we're advising you to make at least two Stanley Cup betting picks — one in the Eastern Conference, and the other in the West. Here's who we think is most worth betting on:

Eastern Conference Pick

Two Florida teams appear to be on a collision course to meet in the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals. On one hand, you have the two-time reigning Stanley Cup winners, the Lightning. On the other hand, you have the team with the best record (32-10-5) and most points (69) in the league, the Panthers. Neither one of these two are bad picks, but alas, we can only choose one for the sake of this article (and to maximize betting value).

That pick is Tampa Bay. They're right on Florida's tail in the standings with 66 points and a 30-10-6 mark. But what's impressed us the most is the Lightning haven't come close to reaching their full potential. That's because injuries have slowed them down all season long. Nikita Kucherov has played a whopping 11 games this year. Furthermore, the likes of Brayden Point, Erik Cernak, and Zach Bogosian have missed significant time on the ice.

At some point this season, the entire lineup has to be on the floor at the same time, right? You'd think so, and when (if?) that happens, Tampa Bay could be the best iteration it's had in the past three seasons — which is a scary thought. Bet the champions here to continue their NHL dynasty in 2022!

Western Conference Pick

An injury plays a factor in our Western Conference pick, as well. This time we're talking about Las Vegas and Jack Eichel. Early in the season, the Golden Knights acquired Eichel from the Sabres. Eichel gives the franchise what it's sorely needed since its magical expansion season in 2017 — a star at the center.

Problem is, Eichel hasn't suited up for one game since joining Las Vegas. A disc replacement surgery in his neck has kept the 25-year-old sidelined. But there's hope Eichel will be back on the ice sooner rather than later. Just a few days ago, Eichel skated in practice wearing a full-contact jersey for the first time since the surgery. Head coach Peter DeBoer hinted that Eichel can participate in contact drills soon, which will really speed up his return.

Even without Eichel, Las Vegas has cruised through the regular season. They're atop the Pacific Division with a 28-16-3 record and 59 points. Though, the playoffs are where the Golden Knights have historically come up short in big-time moments. With a healthy Eichel, we could very much see Las Vegas finally "getting over the hump."

Obviously, that's risky given the magnitude of Eichel's injury. So we'd advise you to keep the sum you bet on the Golden Knights smaller than the Lightning. But hey, at these odds (10.00), you don't need a large-sized bet to cash out big anyway!
