Best NFL Picks Straight Up for Week 13

Best NFL Picks Straight Up for Week 13
Week 13 is the best weekend of football in a while and potential of the entire season. Huge divisional showdowns, a great Sunday Night match and plenty of games will serious implications on the playoff race help turn Week 13 into an excellent weekend. There are many games and moneylines to consider, and there is definitely some money to be made. Previewing the biggest games and best bets to make on Week 13 of the NFL season.

Finally! A Great Weekend Of Football

The Thanksgiving Weekend in the NFL helped to clarify a few things. We learned that the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs are frauds. The Atlanta Falcons could be the most dangerous team in the NFL. The Ravens could make a serious playoff run, despite Joe Flacco. And the Chargers could win the AFC West. However, over the final five weeks of the season, much still will be determined.

Week 13 offers the best slate of football games in weeks and maybe all season. Big showdowns in Atlanta, New Orleans and Seattle highlight the competitiveness of the league in Week 13. Even games between Detroit and Baltimore have massive significance on the playoff picture. Overall, both fans and bettors should get excited for an excellent weekend of football.

Preview And Picks On Week 13

Two 6-5 teams meet in Baltimore, as the Ravens host the Detroit Lions. It is a classic tale of offence versus defence, as the Lions (fifth in points for) try to score against Baltimore (who rank second in points against). The Ravens biggest strength on defence is their secondary. The team is second in passing yards per game and leads the NFL in interceptions.

The Ravens rush defence is average and can be susceptible to quality running backs. The problem for Detroit is their rushing offence stinks. The Lions rank third last in rushing yards, averaging just 78.3 yards. Matthew Stafford is playing well this season, but he and the Lions receivers will struggle to do enough against the Ravens secondary to win on the road.

Possibly the best game of Week 13 sees the 9-2 Vikings head south to face the 7-4 Falcons. Both teams are playing superb football and currently sit in a playoff spot. The Falcons need this game more than the Vikings, which could be problematic for Atlanta. The Vikings own a top-three rushing defence and an efficient passing defence. The Falcons offence is playing much better after a slow start to the season, but it is only marginally better than that of the Vikings, and in some offensive categories it is worse. The completeness of the Vikings makes them one of the harder teams to wager against, even on the road against a quality opponent.

The Colts and Jaguars play for the second time this season, this time in Jacksonville. The Jaguars demolished the Colts, beating them 27-0. Not much has changed for the Colts since that loss, and there is little reason to believe they can upset the Jaguars on the road. What more, the 27-0 game in Week 7 did not feature rookie running back Leonard Fournette. Considering the Colts allow the third most rushing touchdowns and around 4.0 yards per carry, expect Fournette and the Jaguars to run all over the Colts en route to a victory in week 13.

In one of the strangest lines of the season, the 3-8 Denver Broncos find themselves as road favourites against the Miami Dolphins. While neither team is particularly good, the Broncos will be without their top defensive back and have a worse competition percentage and a worse TD-INT ratio than the Dolphins.  The Dolphins secondary is arguably the second worst in the league, behind only the Raiders. Last week against the Raiders, the Broncos could only generate 190 passing yards and 14 points in a losing effort. Take the Dolphins to win as home underdogs.

In desperate need of a win, the Kansas City Chiefs head to New York to play a competitive New York Jets squad. Excluding the first two weeks of the season, every single New York Jets game has been decided by eight points or less. Despite only being two games out of a playoff spot, the Jets are likely not going to make the playoffs. However, with a surprising amount of talent on offence (especially at wide receiver), the Jets could play spoiler over the final few weeks of the season.

They could start that trend this weekend. Kansas City is one of the worst teams at stopping the pass (especially to wide receivers). Also, the Jets have a good rush defence. The Chiefs have been a mess on offence since Kareem Hunt cooled off. Do not expect Kareem Hunt to get his mojo back against the Jets. Take the Jets as home dogs to takedown the reeling Chiefs.

What a disaster of a week it has been for the New York Giants. The Giants have elected to bench Eli Manning in favour of Geno Smith, causing a big uproar amongst Giants fans and sports analysts. If they opted to start rookie Davis Webb (to see what they have for the future), the reaction would have been different. However, Geno Smith is a proven quantity in the NFL. Proven in the sense that he is not very good and definitely not a franchises quarterback. The Giants have no offence line, a terrible running game, injured wide receivers and now Geno Smith starting. Bet the Raiders.

A revenge game against the Browns is simply not a sentence uttered very often. However, in this case, it can be, as the Chargers look to avenge a humiliating loss to the Browns from a season ago. The Chargers are one of the hottest teams in the NFL and have a quarterback (Philip Rivers) who is making a case to be the league MVP. The Chargers defence is playing great and the Browns have not won a road game in years. There is almost no reason not to bet the Chargers on Sunday.

Best Over And Under Bets

In a week without a single over/under line set at or above 49.5, it is surprisingly challenging to find many over wagers to consider. The 43.0 (-115) line on the Browns-Chargers game looks appealing. The Chargers offence is sizzling, and even the Browns can muster up some offence, especially in garbage time. Otherwise, with how banged up the Seattle Seahawks defence is, the over line of 47.0 (-110) on the Eagles-Seahawks game is the next best bet.

For under bets, the 43.0 (-105) on the Lions-Ravens game looks attractive. The Ravens defence is second in the NFL in points allowed and the Lions rushing attack is not going to help their offence on Sunday. The next best could be the 44.5 (-110) line on the Buccaneers-Packers game. Both teams are on their backup quarterbacks and falling out of the playoff race. It is tough to see both teams putting up significant offensive numbers on Sunday.
