2021 Stanley Cup Exact Matchup

2021 Stanley Cup Exact Matchup
Odds are available on 2021 Stanley Cup Finals matchups. You can find who we think is the best bet to play each other in the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals here!

As most teams enter the 20+ games range of the 2021 NHL season, we know enough about each team that we can separate the contenders from the pretenders. But unlike a regular NHL season – the switches in division alignment means we have more potential Stanley Cup Finals matchups than usual – such as two Eastern or two Western Conference teams playing each other.

Best Bet: Colorado Avalanche vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup Finals

Even if the Tampa Bay Lightning are the reigning champs and still the best team in the NHL – it is hard to repeat as the winner with only one team (the 2017 Pittsburgh Penguins) winning back-to-back Cups this century. This is why we like the NHL odds of a Stanley Cup Finals between the Colorado Avalanche and the Toronto Maple Leafs – who you can argue are as talented as Tampa Bay this season.

The Colorado Avalanche has a deep roster – with a mixture of superstars including Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen and young, budding talents such defencemen Cale Makar and Sam Girard. They are also getting a stellar season out of Philipp Grubauer with a .923 save percentage and a 2.01 GAA in 15 starts. Grubauer has been a stud in the postseason – with a .924 save percentage and 2.15 goals-against average in 19 games with the Avs.

Facing the Avs, we are betting on the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs have been arguably the best team in the National Hockey League this season. The Leafs are led by Auston Matthews, the leading goal scorer in the NHL this season (with 18 goals in 20 games). He has the team playing at such a high level that even though he trails the likes of Conor McDavid in points – Matthews is a good bet to win the 2021 NHL MVP award. Marner and Tavares also having stellar seasons and combine to make the Leafs dangerous every night.

As long as these two teams keep rolling and avoid any untimely injuries – especially to their starting goaltenders – this is our pick for the exact 2021 Stanley Cup matchup.

Pick: Toronto vs. Colorado (21.00) Stanley Cup Finals

Other Matchups We Like

This season's uniqueness means we could potentially get some pretty interesting matchups – that normally would not be possible. There are also so many combinations of matchups it is entirely reasonable to spread around your NHL futures and bet on multiple options.

Boston Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

These two clubs have spent the better part of the last eight years (when the NHL realigned divisions) battling each other for Atlantic Division dominance. But now have a chance to meet each other in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Tampa Bay is the reigning champs – and look as good, if not even better, this season. The group is dominating even without the services of Nikita Kucherov – who should return in times for the playoffs – a huge boost to have a fresh-legged 40-goal scorer join your lineup.

The Bruins are in the midst of another competitive season – with longtime Bruins Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak forming one of the most dangerous trios in the NHL this season. The Bruins are getting average goaltending from Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak – but the two should improve before the end of the season.

Pick: Boston vs. Tampa Bay (23.00) 2021 Stanley Cup Matchup

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Philadelphia Flyers

Although this matchup is lower down on the list at odds of 36.00 – we like what we have seen the last season and a half from these two clubs – that they could conceivably play each other in the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Vegas Golden Knights have been one of the most consistently competitive teams since joining the NHL in 2017.  They have made the playoffs every year and make it to the Conference Finals twice, and a Stanley Cup birth in 2018. They have a strong roster and are getting an outstanding season from Marc-Andre Fleury. The 36-year-old goaltender is a leading candidate for the 2021 Vezina Trophy – as he leads the NHL with a .941 save percentage and 1.59 GAA.

Philly is having a good season playing in the hyper-competitive East Division. The Flyers have the sixth-ranked offence in the NHL this season, averaging 3.39 goals per game (over their first 18 games). They are also scoring on a league-best 13.1% of their shot attempts.  The Flyers are getting some great seasons out of veterans James van Riemsdyk and Kevin Hayes – as well as surprising production out of 20-year-old Joel Farabee (17 points in 18 games).

Pick: Vegas vs. Philadelphia (36.00) Stanley Cups Finals
