Toronto Betting Lines

Thanks to efforts led by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, Major League Soccer expanded to Canada in 2005, when Toronto was awarded a franchise. After a public unveiling in 2006, the MLS became a truly international league, welcoming Toronto FC for their first season in 2007. During the early years, Toronto betting lines listed the Reds mostly as underdogs. Over the past few years, Toronto has transformed into a top designated contender.

Toronto Betting Lines Today

Toronto FC betting lines today have changed drastically from previous seasons. The team instantly earned greater respect after clinching their first MLS Cup finals appearance in 2016, which has lead to the Reds being listed as contenders in the east.

Betting on Toronto FC

There’s no hiding the fact that Toronto FC stumbled badly out of the gate, experiencing some of the lowest lows that an MLS franchise could endure. Fortunately, Toronto soccer fans remained supportive through the tough times, allowing management the patience needed to assemble a winner. In 2014, Tim Leiweke enacted a new team-wide philosophy that attracted Michael Bradley, a midfield star from the U.S. National Men’s team. Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco joined the team shortly afterwards, creating one of the best trios of designated players in the MLS.

They finally made the playoffs in 2015, but were knocked out of the first round by the Montreal Impact – their main rival. However, the Reds weren’t denied their revenge the next year, beating the Impact during an epic eastern conference finals which featured twelve goals and numerous shifts in momentum. Unlike previous Reds sides, the modern version of Toronto FC includes the resiliance necessary to excel at the top level of the MLS.

Powerful runs from Altidore and flashy wizardry from Giovinco spur the attack, but the backbone of Toronto has become their attention to defensive detail. The back line that they’ve assembled could be considered the best the side has ever had, resulting in a mere 39 goals against and an MLS Cup appearance in 2016. Toronto’s firepower feeds off a strong defensive presence, giving them more space to create magic. During the next few years, Toronto FC should remain favorites of the eastern conference, making them a safe play on most occasions.
