Battling in the same division as their State rivals, New York City FC, the New York Red Bulls are one of ten squads that played in each of the first twenty Major League Soccer seasons. First introduced as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, the Red Bull corporation purchased the franchise in 2006 and the New York Red Bulls were born. Though they were playoff qualifiers 16 times, the Red Bulls did not claim an MLS Cup during their first twenty seasons.

MLS Wagering Lines and New York Red Bulls MLS Championship Results
Following mixed results, during their first fourteen Major League Soccer seasons, the New York Red Bulls closed their first two decades of MLS play on a fairly impressive roll. After winning just one Eastern Conference regular season championship, through 2009, the Red Bulls won the East during three of the next six seasons. Through it all, the Red Bulls only MLS Cup appearance was in 2008.
Finishing the 2008 season with a 10-11-9 record, the Red Bulls qualified as a crossover squad with a wild card berth in the Western Conference playoff bracket. With underdog lines on betting boards everywhere, the Red Bulls stunned the Houston Dynamos eliminating the twice defending champs with a 4-1 aggregate count over two games. Following a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake, in the West Final, the Red Bulls lost their wings as the Columbus Crew won 3-1 in the MLS Cup Final.
