Los Angeles Kings Betting Lines

The L.A Kings became a popular team in the late 1980′s when they shocked the world and were able to swing a trade to get Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky was the best player in the world at the time (some still say the best ever) and his arrival in Hollywood brought a buzz to California for hockey like nobody ever saw before. In fact, it could be argued that Gretzky became the unofficial ambassador of NHL hockey in the state and he’s a big reason why the league expanded to get more teams in the area just a few years later. [+]

Yet, Gretzky was never able to bring a Stanley Cup championship to L.A. That title was reserved for a more recent era of L.A Kings hockey that has seen L.A become a hockey town once again. Being in a highly populated, wealthy market, it didn’t take long for action on L.A Kings betting lines to increase dramatically.

Betting On The Los Angeles Kings

Gretzky may have been the one who made NHL hockey cool in the City of Angels, but the arrival of guys like Jonathan Quick, Drew Doughty and Dustin Brown in the mid-to-late 2000′s enabled this franchise to turn the corner. The Kings were able to win two Stanley Cups in a three-year span on the backs of those guys as their core and with Doughty and Quick still being very young, this organization is built for long-term success in the coming years.

In betting terms, that notion can be taken as a good and bad one. It’s good because if you believe L.A will continue their winning ways for years to come, counting on them to win more often than not on a nightly basis eases the mind when making a wager.

It can be bad because sportsbooks understand that line of thinking too and you will always be paying a premium on the moneylines to back L.A. Paying too much “juice” on high lines, such as -175 or higher, when you have to bet $175 to win $100 profit in this example, can be bankroll crippling when they don’t come through. Even the best teams in the NHL lose about 40% of the time, so picking your spots with L.A is critical to the health of your betting funds.
