Along with Pittsburgh and New England, Denver is widely recognized as the cream of the AFC crop and a perennial contender. The Mile High City is home to eight AFC Conference Championship teams and the Broncos have claimed three Super Bowl titles through the 2015 NFL season. First led by Hall of Fame QB John Elway, and then Peyton Manning, Denver is a highly decorated squad with an AFC West Division best 23 playoff berths during the first fifty years of the Super Bowl era.
Moving from Oakland to Los Angels and back to Oakland, the Raiders claimed three Super Bowl crowns between the 1976 and 1983 seasons. Kansas City played in two of the first four title games and won their lone NFL Championship to date during Super Bowl IV against the Minnesota Vikings. Moving to San Diego from Los Angeles in 1961, the Chargers lone appearance in the first 50 Super Bowl contests was a 49-26 thumping by the San Francisco 49ers during Super Bowl XXIX in 1994.
