CFL Thursday Night Football Week 2
Sports Interaction Football Games
Week two of Canadian Football League action continues the trend of great games and exciting match-ups. With Canada Day falling on a Saturday this year, the CFL has opted to play three of their four games prior to Saturday. Week two starts with the second half of the Ottawa-Calgary home-and-home. After tying – for the second time in as many years – this game is the hardest to predict. The game that has gained the most momentum and intrigue of the week is the BC Lions and Toronto Argonauts. Argos quarterback – Ricky Ray – put on a passing clinic in week one, and looks right at home in Marc Trestman’s system. This game has the potential to turn into a shootout.
The second game on Friday, June 30 sees Darian Durant and the Montreal Alouettes head west to take on the Edmonton Eskimos. Both Edmonton and Montreal won their week one games after trailing late in the fourth quarter, and both franchises will look to build off their early season success in week two. The last game of the weekend sees the Winnipeg Blue Bombers play their first game of the season. The Blue Bombers travel to Regina – where the Saskatchewan Roughriders play their first regular season game at their brand new stadium.
After a challenging week one with some upsets and tight games, week two offers a little more information and a little less uncertainty. For the four games in week two, our focus will be on three – with the Ottawa-Calgary rematch taking the backseat as these two teams have a tendency to play games that are either very close or play games were Calgary dismantles the Redblacks. For this week, there are three smart bets to make. An over bet on Friday night, a road underdog with some momentum and a home underdog opening a new stadium.
Canadian Football League Picks Week 2
- BC at Toronto: Over 51.0 (-110) at Sports Interaction
The top bet for week two of the CFL season is the over in the BC Lions – Toronto Argonauts match on Friday. The Argo’s offence surprised everyone in week one, exploring for over 500 yards of total offence. The BC Lions can go score for score with the Argos – as they have arguably the best collection of offensive talent in the CFL. Take the over at over 51.0, as both teams offences are capable of scoring 30 points or more.
- Montreal at Edmonton: Montreal +8.5 (-110) at Sports Interaction
The Montreal Alouettes head out west to take on Edmonton in the second game on Friday. The Edmonton Eskimos enter Friday’s game as the favourite at +8.5, but Montreal showed some guts in their week one victory. Edmonton lost their second lead tackler – from the 2016 season – in week one of this season. This hole will be tricky for Edmonton to fill overnight and will open up some offensive options for Montreal. Add in the fact Montreal’s quarterback – Darian Durant – showed in week one the ability to score late and that 8.5-point line looks good for Montreal.
- Winnipeg at Saskatchewan: Saskatchewan +1.0 (-110) at Sports Interaction
It is still too early to tell if the Saskatchewan Roughriders are going to right the ship in 2017, but one thing is for sure – the Roughriders are going to give it their all on Saturday when they open their brand new stadium. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have the advantage of coming in well rested – having not played in week one – but it is an overstated advantage as Saskatchewan had eight full days off between games. At +1 for Saskatchewan would be more attractive on the moneyline, but at this time that option is unavailable.
