Best NBA Playoff Picks April 20, 2017
The playoffs roll on, with the Raptors in action and in Milwaukee tonight. Elsewhere, the uneasy Cavaliers travel to Indiana, and the Spurs are in Memphis. Who will win tonight?

The wraps move the series to Milwaukee, after a thriller to tie the series in Toronto. It was closer than I would’ve wanted, yes. But I always take away positives in any sort of situation where your team makes clutch plays.  And the Raps made the big shots and the big place down the stretch in game two. Kyle Lowry decided to join us and it was absolutely massive. He was aggressive, he was efficient, and he was clutch. Meanwhile, rock solid effort from Demar, playing his game. He looked in control, and relieved to have some support in the backcourt.

If the Bucks want to win tonight, they need a big game from their frontcourt. Greg Monroe has looked like a resurrected beast at some points. He’s big, and when he feels like playing he’s a real force inside. I think he’s their key to winning tonight, as well as some more veteran leadership from Jason Terry. But, the rafters will win anyway.

It seems fitting that JR Smith is playing on 4:20. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I hate to keep harping on this point, but I feel like the defending NBA champions should be breezing through the first round. They haven’t lost yet, but they certainly haven’t had a convincing victory either. LeBron, Irving, and love should be absolutely toying with this Indiana team. Indiana has struggled defensively all year, and Cleveland should be giving them about 150 points per night with that lineup.

Meanwhile, Indiana, as a team, probably feels decent. They’ve hung around the first two games, and they’re heading home. I think they can win tonight or the next game. Or both. The Cleveland Cavaliers have not shown me the desire or ability to completely dominate a lesser opponent. As long as that continues, Indiana will be, and will feel, very much in this series and a threat to win every game. Indiana wins tonight.

Take this for data. The San Antonio Spurs look like goddamn assassins right now. They’re doing exactly what a great team does in the first round of the playoffs. Game one blowout. Game too, the lesser team makes a change, but still gets the L. You can say whatever you want about the officiating, but the Spurs have the Grizzlies in a rear naked choke right now. Just waiting for them to quit or pass out.

I like the Grizzlies. I’m a 30 something guy, so I like old man basketball. But the grizzlies can’t beat the Spurs. If they want to grind, San Antonio can grind better than they can. They can’t switch things up and run and gun, but San Antonio can do it better. Mike Conley is still the most underrated point guard in the NBA, but he’s got his hands full right now, and guarding a rejuvenated Tony Parker. Spurs win again tonight in Memphis.
