New Orleans Saints Betting Lines

Largely underdogs during their early years, without a winning record during their first twenty seasons, New Orleans Saints betting lines first appeared on wagering boards way back in 1967. New Orleans nickname is associated with All Saints Day that is celebrated on the same date oilman John W. Mecom, Jr. was awarded the franchise on November 1, 1966. Hearing the Saints may move out of Louisiana, billionaire Tom Benson purchased the team in 1985.

Early Struggles Give Way the Saints First NFL Super Bowl Championship

Often the laughing stock of the NFL early on, brown bag wearing fans and all, the Saints went 0-4 in playoff contests during their first 33 seasons. Following a 10-6 run through the 2000 NFL regular season, the Saints won their franchise first postseason match, 31-28 against the St. Louis Rams, before dropping a 34-16 decision to the Minnesota Vikings in NFC Divisional Playoffs.

As charter members, along with the Panthers, Falcons and Buccaneers, the Saints moved to the NFC South Division in 2002. New Orleans closed out the first half century of the Super Bowl era with a playoff berth in five of the last ten seasons. The highlight of that run was a 13-3 regular season record in 2009 and a 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
